Hey everyone,
So walking my dog in the park, with my children, started talking to some other parents while children in the playground. Not sure how this topic came, but one of the parents started talking about how the Ford plant in Oakville has caused an increased in Cancers in the town, specially in Joshua Creek area, mostly related and/affecting the water coming up in our taps. Living here for about 5 years and first time hearing this.
This person said do not drink tap water because of concerns over the years about possible health effects—specifically around cancer risk, and actually increasing cancer rates in the town comparing to other cities/towns. I’m trying to separate facts from rumors and see if there’s any solid information out there.
From what I’ve been able to find so far, the Oakville Assembly Complex (run by Ford Motor Company) is regulated by provincial environmental authorities, and there doesn’t seem to be any confirmed study proving a direct link between the plant and increased cancer rates in the area. At the same time, I know there have been concerns about emissions (like VOCs from paint operations), so I’m curious if anyone has dug deeper into this.
Has anyone come across:
- Local studies or reports on cancer rates in Oakville?
- Environmental assessments or emission data from the plant?
- Personal experiences or long-term observations living nearby?
Not trying to start panic—just genuinely looking for more data, sources, or firsthand insight to better understand what’s real and what isn’t, so to confirm if this might actually be true, even if the official data shows otherwise or just a gossip made up.
Appreciate any info you can share.
