I graduated 2 years ago (promotional media degree) and the whole job hunt since then has just ben exhausting. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve probably spent hundreds of hours applying, doing interview tasks, chasing replies etc. Most of the time I either get ghosted or strung along. Have been doing some freelance work but found it difficult to find work with reliable people and have even been scammed. At this stage I feel like I’m putting loads of effort in and getting absolutely nothing back, and it’s starting to make me feel pretty stuck.
Right now I’ve got a part-time nanny job (about 12 hours a week) which is covering basics, but I’ve got a lot of free time outside of that.
Instead of continuing to sit on job sites all day feeling rejected, I’m thinking of putting that time into something I actually control.
I’ve always been into fashion and I basically love looking at clothes on Vinted. Over the past month I made about £350 just selling my own stuff, which surprised me.
So now I’m thinking:
go to a kilo sale, spend about £30 on stock (£15 per kilo)
try flipping items on resale apps
use TikTok to document it / promote the clothes (since that’s kind of what my degree is in anyway)
I’m not planning to quit my job or anything, just treat it like a proper side thing and see if I can build it into something.
I know reselling isn’t easy money and probably everyone is doing it now, but at least it feels like effort that might actually go somewhere instead of disappearing into job applications.
Has anyone here actually made this work long-term? Or tried and realised it’s not as viable as it looks?
Would appreciate honest opinions or tips!!
