Were the bricks knocked out by air conditioner installers structural?

- aircon installers knocked out these 3 holes to get the ducting from the pitched roof to flat roof extension, then we’re thinking I’d put 1 bulk head over each of the 3 holes.
- I was concerned that roof rafters were now unsupported so I’ve since had it rebricked and then replastered etc.
- the new approach I’ve proposed is an external duct

The aircon installer assures me the way they knocked out the bricks was common practice and correct for this setup, is that right?
