A Levels and then apply to uni in gap year?

I’m going into year 13 and all of this uni application stuff + a level revision is stressing me out. I’ve had a lot of on and off mental health issues and family issues going on throughout this year. I struggled to decide on a uni course for most of this year and kept changing my mind. as a result, i don’t really have any hugely relevant supercurriculars. I don’t think my that part of my application is going to be strong enough for the unis that i want to apply for.
I have maintained high grades in my subjects and have been putting in consistent effort at least. but that’s really it. i haven’t done that much else.
I’m feeling really lost, especially after seeing these insanely cracked people on here. i haven’t really gone out of my way that much to find good supercurricular opportunities either. I just can’t seem to handle all these other aspects of sixth form other than my a levels without becoming overwhelmed. recently, i’ve been feeling as though this might mean that i’m not cut out for engineering at a top uni.

I’ve been thinking of perhaps taking a gap year after a levels and applying to uni then, rather than now. is this a stupid idea? am i cooked? i haven’t brought this up to my parents yet.

Going into year 13 and feeling awful.

This summer hasn’t really gone to plan. Yes i’ve been revising since the start but I’ve barely done anything for my personal statement or ESAT (which i’m doing in Jan anyways). I’m not an early applicant so i don’t have that pressure but still, I have a feeling that i’m not going to get it done in time. I keep doubting whether the course is even right for me and if i can even get into any of the unis i’m looking at when i’ll probably flop my personal statement and the esat too. I doubt i’ve done enough supercurricular stuff. This might be the anxiety talking but im scared that I’m not going to get the grades I need either. I feel so under prepared and terrible. I’ve also lost motivation to do much other than revise for my upcoming mocks. Everything sucks and I just feel stupid and useless with this whole application process.

EEE personal statements

I want to apply for EEE but I’ve realised that most people seem to have done stuff such as arduino projects, work experience, lots of competitions etc. All i’ve done is further reading, a webinar and a competition. I’m worried that universities will prefer actual projects over this but i didn’t really want to buy anything and i don’t think i have much time now. Also i’ve been told that ESAT is more important than ps but that doesn’t reassure me about my other uni choices that don’t require ESAT. Please help.

How has social media use and doomscrolling impacted your revision?

I’m about to enter year 13. A few days ago, I made the decision to delete most of my social media, including tiktok, for good as these were the most addictive platforms for me. I hit rock rock bottom last week after seeing that i spent an average of 8.5 hrs a day on my phone during the first week of summer break. It was wrecking my revision, mental health and wasting my time ultimately.
After deleting it, i’ve felt so much better and my brain fog is clearing. I don’t see a reason to reinstall that rubbish because whilst there was occasionally useful info, harms now outweigh any benefits for me.

What about you guys?

Year 12 summer going wrong

I want to apply for EEE at competitive universities but I feel really behind with my personal statement and supercurriculars. (I have maybe 2 or 3 things at most and feeling that i’ve missed out on many opportunities) In my mocks i achieved AAA and am predicted A*AA and would need A*A*A to apply to imperial.

I feel really overwhelmed honestly. I keep overthinking and not really getting much done because my mental health is so screwed, partly due to an extenuating circumstance among other things. I’ve decided to sit my ESAT in January because I don’t think I can focus on it right now.

I think a lot of this is just me unnecessarily comparing myself to people and wasting time on tiktok. I know I need to just focus on myself. I still can’t help but feel extremely lost, under pressure, rubbish and uninspired.

How do I get out of this slump and actually make the most of this summer?
(sorry if this post comes across as overly dramatic)

How are we feeling about our end of yr 12 predicted grades?

My school decided to give us pretty much the same grade that we got in these mocks as predicted grades, using their own internal grade boundaries i think. I’m annoyed with mine since i’ve seen how other schools over predict while i’m stuck with mine 😭 At least there’s September mocks to lock in for. Already exhausted because I did work really hard.

My school is banning devices for sixth form as well

Surely this is ridiculous? Tired of all these bans “according to government guidance”.

(vent) Did my first year 12 end of year mock and I’m crashing out

I had my paper 2 maths (stats and mechanics) today. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped (although not terrible). I still have paper 1 next week as well as physics next week.

I had revised quite a lot for this and did well on my previous mocks. However, throughout the year I’ve had several issues including a parent getting hospitalised suddenly recently, frequent family drama, unexpected guest staying at our house during mock season, just to name a few. my teachers do know about this. I came back from a 5 day trip to visit uni open days on sunday and it was really overwhelming, mostly because of the heat but also because of the pressure to do REALLY well on my mocks and all that. the last straw was getting ill yesterday and having to do my first exam whilst trying not to flipping fall asleep.

Perhaps I sound really dramatic but everything is going wrong and I’m convinced that i’m going to mess up year 12 so badly. I also can’t stop comparing myself to peers who also have issues in their lives but are still doing objectively better than me. I just don’t know what to do.
