I hope I’m making the right decision for my daughter
My daughter is 12F and currently has been told by 2 different doctors that she needs a spinal fusion. She has a 56 degree thoracic/33 degree lumbar curve. She was diagnosed at 10, and started with a 39 degree thoracic/23 degree lumbar curve.
We tried nightly bracing with no success. We’ve been seeing an orthopedic surgeon, and wanted to get a second opinion so saw a neurosurgeon for the second opinion, and actually felt more comfortable with him as he explained things much more thoroughly, and is located at a bigger hospital with a better reputation.
My daughter currently is very active, and plays soccer at a club level, so I’m hoping being in shape helps with her recovery. I’ve read stories on here about people who wish their parents had let them have the fusion at a young age, but I’ve also read stories about needing revision surgeries and other things that can go wrong. I just hope I’m making the right decision. It’s so hard as a parent to watch your child go through something like this, and you can only hope it will help them later down the road to avoid a worse outcome. Any encouragement or similar experiences would be appreciated!
