I’ve been on the same ADHD regimen (Focalin XR + IR) for about 4 years without major issues. Recently, during a pretty stressful surgery rotation, I started noticing tremors while suturing and felt more anxious overall. I initially thought it was mostly situational (being in a tough learning environment + upcoming exams/residency stress).

When I brought this up to my current prescriber (a pa), he felt the IR formulation might be contributing and decided to stop it. He told me that he would prescribe them back if i went to therapy. I also started an SSRI around the same time.

I went to therapy but he did not prescribe them again lol

Since stopping the IR, I’ve been noticing more of an afternoon “crash,” which has been tough while trying to stay focused during a demanding study period.

I’m mostly curious if anyone else has gone through something similar. I feel like he conned me because he dangled my medications that worked well for me just to get me to go to therapy which i did. i want my old regime back but would i look bad if i switch providers?

I have been on Focalin 40 mg XR and Focalin 10 mg IR twice a day for almost 4 years now. I started to get some tremors while attempting to suture ( i am a M3), and I admit I was feeling more anxious. But, I attributed that to being in a hostile surgery rotation where I was yelled at in the OR by a surgeon. I also feel the incoming doom of residency application coming on. I went to the person who prescribes my medication who is a PA at my school. He never loved my combination of medications, and said that he was not a fan of IR. I transferred into his care with my old prescription from back home. I wanted to start an SSRI for the anxiety symptoms which I did. But, he attributed my new anxiety to my medication. He discontinued my IR abruptly and told me if I started talk therapy he would see that I was making an effort and would add my medication back. He had been wanting me to start therapy for months now. So, I started therapy, but he now refused to prescribe my focalin IR. I am feeling the afternoon crashes now. As a medical student about to enter dedicated for step 2 I feel so anxious. Is this normal? Would I be considered drug seeking if i switch providers? I just want my old 4 year adhd regimine back. I feel dumb for even asking for an ssri. What should I do?
