Hello all, I am a 20 year old college student, preparing to wrap up my sophomore year of classes and begin summer classes. I have been quite interested in joining the guard for some time as the idea of being able to serve my country while also maintain my status as a full time student is very appealing to me, especially considering the benefits. I’d also really like to enlist as an 11B. After doing research, it seems that a lot of drill weekends for 11Bs in guard stretch past the usual amount for other jobs. Considering this intensive schedule, how compatible is this with being a full time college student? Are professors able to accommodate these absences? What steps can be taken to mitigate poor academic performance because of this? And overall, is it worth it as a full time college student? If there’s any other important information I should know, please tell me, I am uneducated and want to know as much as I can before I make a decision. If anyone who has personally experienced this sees this, please do not hesitate to reply. Thanks.
