Pharmacists work for Free
Make this make sense. I work at not CVS. I got a line and phones ringing. Pt walks to the counseling location and calls tech over. "Hey I just came from my Dr's office. I felt like they weren't listening to me. Health system sucks. Can you call the pharmacist over to go over my meds." Tech tells me I go over. I greet him and he shows me his discharge papers. I skim over very quickly. There are 12 medications. I quickly tell him what they are for. All good no problem. Mind you things are actively happening at my pharmacy and im the only pharmacist there. Other rph is on lunch. So i ask him so any more questions or like specific questions about your meds. Again "complain complain about the dr and healthcare system". My patience I agree was losing a bit. Im like "i get it sir, but im trying to help you what other questions did u have". My guy starts giving me a whole medical history and started asking me to diagnose him. ive been feeling this pain and that pain for the last week or so. whhat do you think is going on with me" im like ...dude idk. u were just at the Drs. who u pay money, who diagnosed u with whatever i have no idea. i have no labs or anything to work off of. just symptoms. u think im smarter than a physician at diagnosing?? (i didnt say that part). anyways i said can i help u with the meds. whats ure DOB so i can see what the dr. sent to us. Put in his DOB and name, not coming up. im like i cant find u in the system, has the Dr. sent it to us? Hes like no i go to CVS but theyre always busy. ... I was literally about to explode!!!
Besides going to another pharmacy to get counseling even though you fill somewhere else. I am starting to be against this whole "accessible pharmacist" thing. You pay ure Dr. sometimes 100s of dollars and then complain. And then you expect to pay $0 to your pharmacist and get a 5 star service. I looked up the laws in my state regarding counseling. It has to do with medications being dispensed. So basically on check out, especially if its a new medication. To go over directions, side effects, storage, etc.Thats it! The rest we do for free. we are not required to do it. If ure Dr. didnt explain things to u thats not my fault. dont put ure frustration on me.
