Four over Three (feet). Improv/groove over the top.

Four over three is one of the most profound polyrhythms to explore. First thing the Efrian Toro taught me. He basically said "Go to the woods and contemplate this/practice between your hands and feet for the next 3 years, it will never stop teaching you." The relationship to four over three (in this case bassdrum is 4, hihat is 3) is a harmonic relationship. That is to say, its imperfect, can not be quantified (even though many try), and requires a constant attention to adjustment and awareness of the 2 rhythms. Think of a husband and wife. Harmony is not a formula. It's listening to each other and adjusting constantly even if on a microscopic/subconscious level.

Philosophy aside, this is really fun. With the hands I move between playing against the 3 or the 4 (rarely both at once). The result is... funky. Fun. Interesting. Melodic and harmonic.
