Old AdSense account was automatically deactivated for inactivity. New application keeps saying "Your account wasn't approved". Could this be treated as a duplicate account?

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit confused and hoping someone has dealt with this before.

A few years ago, I had an AdSense account under a different Gmail. I never earned anything from it, and after a long period of inactivity, Google automatically deactivated it. It now shows a "Reactivate account" button.

Recently, I created a new AdSense application using my personal Gmail for my new website.

My application keeps returning to "Your account wasn't approved" with only a Resubmit button. When I open the AdSense help page linked from the dashboard, the first issue listed is duplicate AdSense accounts, which made me wonder if my old inactive account is the problem.

I have not reactivated the old account because I don't want to accidentally end up with two active accounts.

Has anyone experienced this?

Should I:

Reactivate the old account and use that instead?

Continue with the new account?

Or contact Google before doing anything?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who's been through this. Thanks!

Finally launched the blog I kept overthinking for months — would love some honest advice.

Launched my first serious blog recently targeting US traffic around AI, digital lifestyle, creator tools and online income.

My current strategy is mainly Pinterest + SEO + Flipboard instead of relying only on Google.

For people already growing blogs in 2026:

what’s actually working right now for newer sites?

Not “theory”, but things you genuinely see helping with traffic, retention or growth.
