Thinking about connecting Google Ads to HubSpot for the first time?

If you're newer to Google Ads, Performance Max is worth knowing about as it runs across Search, YouTube, Gmail, and more from one campaign. 

We see a lot of questions about the HubSpot x Google Ads integration: attribution discrepancies, ROI tracking, enhanced conversions not firing correctly. Most of those headaches show up after people have already committed to running ads, so here's what's worth setting up from the start.

Before you launch:

  • Enable auto-tagging in Google Ads. Without it, HubSpot can't pull campaign data into contact records
  • Set your attribution model before contacts start coming in, not after (changing it retroactively gets messy)
  • If you're tracking deals, map a campaign/ad group ID property at first touch so attribution survives pipeline movement

On ROI reporting: HubSpot's native ads reporting hits a ceiling when you need deal-stage ROI across multiple pipelines. Joining spend data externally (BI tool or even a spreadsheet) is a common workaround.

Timing note for anyone who hasn't started yet: If you're new to Google Ads (never run a campaign), the current new advertiser credit offer is temporarily doubled through June 30, so spend $500 USD, get $1,000 USD back in ads credit vs. the usual $500 USD. US only. Worth knowing if you've been waiting for a lower-risk moment to test the channel. Terms apply

We built a free benchmark for AI search volatility. What would make this useful for you?

HubSpot’s AEO Sensor launched this week and it's a free, public benchmarking tool for AI search behavior. No login required.

The problem it's trying to solve: answer engines change constantly, adjusting who gets cited, what content gets surfaced, and how traffic moves. Most marketers only notice when their own numbers shift and there's no reference point for what's happening across the industry.

It tracks three things:

  • Volatility score (0–100): How much daily citation, mention, and AI-referred traffic behavior deviates from a baseline. Calm → Moderate → Elevated → Extreme.
  • AI-referred traffic trends: Directional estimates from anonymized HubSpot data.
  • Industry benchmarks: AI visibility and citation share across 10 industries.

Worth flagging: it shows the landscape, not your brand. It's not a replacement for HubSpot AEO, but more of a "how much is the ground moving right now" read.

Seeing this come up a lot with HubSpot AEO lately:

  • Low visibility
  • Weak sentiment
  • Competitors showing up instead

The data’s there… but it’s not always obvious what to fix first.

One thing we have noticed: default prompts only get you so far. Feels like you have to start customizing pretty early to see real movement.

We’re digging into this more in a session on May 6 how to actually triage AEO issues (prompts, citations, competitors) and figure out what’s worth fixing vs ignoring.

Curious what others are seeing are you getting results out of the box, or having to tweak prompts to get anywhere?
