How can I get my Gouldian finches to eat a wider variety of fruits and vegetables?

I'm worried about nutritional deficiencies, so I've been trying to introduce different types of veggies.

However, aside from napa cabbage, kale, and pear, they either take a tiny bite and stop, or completely ignore them.

Today, I offered them finely grated carrots and blueberries, but they didn't touch them at all.

Fortunately, they do nibble on their pellets a little bit, but I am still concerned.

Sometimes they eat broccoli and bok choy well, but other times they only take a few bites and ignore them.

Today, I bought carrots, bell peppers, and sweet potatoes.

They didn't eat the carrots, but I really hope they will try the sweet potatoes and bell peppers.

My canaries love vegetables so much that it's almost a problem, but on the other hand, I'm worried because my Gouldian finches hardly eat them.

The feathers on my Gouldian Finches' faces are gradually turning white.

The second one is a female Gouldian finch. She lost her facial feathers in the past when she was attacked by a male Gouldian finch, and at the same time, she lost a lot of feathers due to molting, but they grew back white like that.

Could this be a vitamin deficiency?

Or is it a natural process?

Are there any snack bar products that are safe for canaries to eat?

I am currently feeding this product to my finches.

However, I am concerned that they might get bored if I keep giving them only this one product, so I have been looking for alternatives. Unfortunately, most of what I can find seems to be intended for parrots.

What do you think about RIO products? Are they suitable for finches and canaries?

How can I stop female canaries from laying eggs?

Referring to the advice I received when I posted a question on Reddit before,

I removed the nest from the cage when the female abandoned the eggs on her own and stopped showing interest in the nest.

I reduced the amount of daylight.

(Since the house doesn't get much sunlight, I use a bird lamp.)

I stopped providing nutritious food like boiled eggs.

I have separated all males and females, except for the couples that still have chicks.

Even so, the female canaries keep making nests and laying eggs.

Although it is already a past event, another female made a new nest in the food bowl and laid eggs even though the chicks were not fully grown.(Fortunately, the male raised the chicks to the end, and the female also quickly abandoned the eggs and nest and started raising the chicks. The chicks grew up healthily and were rehomed to other homes.)

Honestly, now I don't know what to do either.

If I don't give them a nest, they build a nest in the food bowl or the feeder containing calcium sand, and if I don't give them nesting materials, they tear up the newspaper on the floor and toys to prepare the materials.

When I asked Google AI, it said that if the environment is very perfect, they focus on breeding, but I don't know whether this is true or not.

(The canaries in the picture are the baby canaries that have now been rehomed to other homes.)

My Gouldian finch's facial feathers are not growing back.

It seems that the feathers on this bird's face are not regrowing.

I discovered, rather late, that an aggressive male during the breeding season had been plucking out its facial feathers, so I separated them immediately.

However, even after a considerable amount of time has passed, the facial feathers have still not grown back.

Suspecting a skin disease, I took the bird to a veterinarian. Aside from being slightly weakened, the vet found no abnormalities with its skin.

I have also been consistently giving it nutritional supplements that are supposed to support feather regrowth, but despite this, its face has remained in poor condition for nearly four months now.

I am quite worried and saddened by the situation.

I’m curious about the signs of breeding readiness in female Gouldian finches and the best timing for introducing a nest box.

I’m a bird lover and keep several species, including canaries and Gouldian finches. I currently have four blue Gouldian finches—two males and two females.

Recently, one of the males has been singing and courting a female, though she’s been giving him the cold shoulder so far.

The challenge is that I’m at work from 8 AM to 6 PM on weekdays. I also avoid using IP cameras due to privacy concerns following major hacking incidents in South Korea, so I have no way of monitoring them while I’m away.

Even when I’m home, my finches are extremely skittish; they either freeze or dart away as soon as they notice me watching.

I consulted the shop where I got them, and they suggested leaving the nest in the cage year-round, saying the birds would simply ignore it outside of the breeding season. I had a feeling this wasn’t the best advice, so I decided to seek a second opinion.

Specifically, I’d like to know:

[What are the signs that a female Gouldian finch is in breeding condition?]

[What are the physical or behavioral signs that she is about to lay eggs?]

[What is the ideal timing or trigger for introducing a nest box?]

I recently lost a cherished female canary, which has made me more cautious and sensitive about the health of my birds. I want to make sure I’m doing everything right.

The second bird in the photo is a female Gouldian finch. Since she rejected the male’s courtship, he started attacking her. The other finches joined in as well, so I had to separate her.

It’s upsetting to see that she lost feathers on her face from being attacked

I had a canary that was obsessively trying to lay eggs, and it eventually died.

I think egg binding may have been the cause, but I’m not sure.

Before I left for work, it looked very weak, so I planned to only work the morning shift and take it to the vet in the afternoon. However, when I rushed back home, it had already passed away.

I thought it would stay with me until the end of its life.

I’m very sad.
