Metalshaping - Forming a Tricky Shape with Basic Tools
This piece is for an aluminum Lotus 7 nose cone I made a few years back. Sometimes parts are just too small/tight for fancy tools, and it’s all about basic hand tools. This particular piece is a little tricky because the radius of the front edge changes from top to bottom. The material is .063” 3003 H14 aluminum, and is not annealed. This panel would have been easier to make if I had a solid buck to hammer form against, but I only have the original fiberglass lotus nose so I had to be careful.
Shaping an alloy fairing
First time sharing my work here. I finally found time to get some work in on a personal project. I’ve had a vision for a full-fairing hardtail loosely inspired by the land speed bikes from the 60’s/70’s. I own a metalshaping business, so I’ll be making all of the bodywork and tank from aluminum. It will be powered by an XS650 motor in a custom frame I had made by my friend Sean at SNS Customs in Nova Scotia.
