Incoming 2L in Ontario hoping to end up a family lawyer. I currently am volunteering for a family law part time firm but I don’t think they have any openings for 2L summer students next summer. As I have some time right now and the LSO deadline is July 20, I was just wondering, for those that ended up becoming family lawyers and joining a family law firm, what steps did you take?

Is there anything specific I should be working on now? Coffee chatting with family lawyers at different firms? Any advice?

Had my initial consultation with lawyer about two months ago, she said she would take on my divorce case and I paid her the $4000 retainer. She is a well known family lawyer in my area. Since then I have emailed multiple times, and she has not responded, called her her secretary who says she is currently very busy with court but I should continue to email in order to stay on her radar.

I’m wondering, am I being impatient? Is 2 months a normal time to not have any progress in my case? Is a refund possible for the retainer? How would one go about this?
