MDF Veneering Question
Hello everyone.
Looking for some advice for a project I'm working on. I'm making a slat wall for someone. due to cost, length and stability, we've decided to use MDF boards for the slats and veneer them with Walnut strips.
I'm wondering how thick the walnut strips can be without causing stability and warping down the road. I know that if I glued a 3/4in piece of walnut to a 3/4in piece of MDF, it will most likely warp because the walnut will be fighting the stable MDF as it tries to move.
But clearly theres a point at which the veneer is thin enough that the MDF will over power it because that what veneering is.
the slats them selves are going to be about 2 5/8" wide and like 108" long. For the thickness, I'm trying to aim for 1.25". That means I could get 1" MDF with two 1/8" thick walnut strips on either side.
Is that too thick? I have the ability to make thinner strips but I'd really like the end result to be 1 1/4"
Any advice would be appreciated Thanks!
