Hi,
I’d like some recommendations and advice for a projector and screen setup for my home. I’m from Australia and looking to spend between $2-$3k for the projector and screen.
The room this is planned for is just over 6Mx6M with a 2.8m ceiling. One wall is mostly glass door, one wall has a couple of smaller windows while the remaining two have none. The glass is all covered by vertical blinds which do an OK job of darkening the room, but there will still be ambient light from outside of a day.
I’ve determined a 120” screen is ideal for the room, but it will need a decent header length so the projection surface is at a good viewing level (at least 30cm). In this position it will block my front L/R speakers, so may need acoustic transparency (or I could stop the screen a bit higher I guess)
We sit about 3.8m from the screen (tested a portable screen) and a projector we tested with on a tripod behind the seating position (also about 3.8m to the screen). Ideally I want to ceiling mount the projector, but it will depend on what an electrician can do (this is ground floor of a two storey house). Worst case we’d have to use the projector on a tripod.
Smart functionality is not required as I will hook this up to a hdmi monitor out port on my AVR.
Final thoughts:
- the test projector (low cost Chinese) and screen (120”)looked pretty good with a 1080p resolution, so I am not set on 4k. Brightness and ambient light were the main issues with the test gear.
- mostly this is for movie watching at night, but would like something for occasional day viewing. Gaming use would be nice but not important.
I think that’s it. Thank you for any advice!
