Should I Trade My 2024 GT for Dark Horse 2024?
Hey everyone,
Need some collective sanity check on a trade I'm looking at.
I’m weighing swapping my current ride—which is sitting at a very fresh 3,500 miles—for an immaculate, garage-kept Dark Horse with the Handling Package that has 25,000 miles on it. Making the jump also means adding roughly $10k to $15k to my loan.
Here is how I’m wrestling with the math:
The Mileage Jump: Going from 3.5k miles to 25k miles is a big mental hurdle. Even though the car is pristine and clearly well-cared-for, it's still a noticeable jump in wear on the odometer.
The "Build It" Trap: If I stay put, I know I'm eventually going to bleed cash buying the exact things the Dark Horse Handling Package already comes with out of the box—upgraded suspension, wider wheels, stance, proper aero/spoiler, headlights, etc.
The Financial Hit: Taking on an extra $10k–$15k on the loan plus taking a higher-mileage car hurts, but am I just paying upfront for factory engineering and parts that I'd end up piecemealing and buying anyway?
For those of you who have faced a similar crossroad: Does buying the factory spec pre-built make sense when you factor in modification costs, or is taking on more debt for a higher-mileage car a bad move no matter how clean it is?
Would love to hear how you'd break down the math
