Finally having fun with Barbarian

https://reddit.com/link/1ummqlp/video/q77ay9ym72bh1/player

Hi all, I wanted to say thanks for all the helpful and supportive comments I got on my last post.

I'm finally having fun playing Barbarian and two key things helped me appreciate the class:

  1. Somebody mentioned in my last post that Barbarian doesn't get many "fun" buttons to press until late-game. I'm currently around Level 13 and have recently obtained Heart of Fury and Dragon Leap which have done wonders for improving my engagement with the class.
  2. After getting all the companions, I've come to appreciate how absurdly strong Blood Thirst as a passive is for mob fights. Especially with how it works in turn-based, killing multiple enemies (like in the linked video) means you get a bunch of turns in a row where you can just keep continuously chaining kills together for a seemingly unending turn.

All to say that I appreciate people telling me to stick with the class instead of restarting - turns out all the fun stuff was tucked away in the higher levels!

First playthrough and almost 60 hours in - I'm regretting my chosen class

To be clear, this is mostly to invite discussion or maybe similar stories.

After multiple attempts of trying to get into Pillars, turn-based was enough to get me to try again and I'm having a ball. I can tell I'm having fun with it because I'm already having ideas for my next playthroughs!

The problem is that in taking a break from my playthrough to create new characters with other classes, I've realised that I picked maybe one of the least interesting classes possible - that being Barbarian.

Don't get me wrong - I'm very powerful and mowing down groups of enemies is very satisfying. But it's overall not a very engaging playstyle. 90% of my playing is Frenzy + Barbaric Yell + cleaving as many enemies as possible. Maybe I'll get out Firebrand for tougher enemies, otherwise stick with Tidefall. Very strong, very one-dimensional.

After playing Rogue, Monk and Cipher for a bit, I'm afraid I may have committed to a class that I'm just realising doesn't get a lot of flash or style.

Has anyone else navigated this situation? I'm still absolutely going to be finishing this run but I'm wondering if my best bet is to change my class in Deadfire unless Barbarian gets better there?

Did I just witness the most disgusting curve of the format?

I've always lurked here but had to get someone else to comment on what I just experienced - excuse any misplays as I was likely busy picking my jaw off the floor:

T2 Widow's Bite on my mana dork

T3 Thanos with no fixing

T4 Fin Fang Foom

T5 Mjölnir, Hammer of Thor

T6 M.O.D.O.K.

I genuinely would've thought they were cheating if they didn't start playing stuff like Hawkeye's Bow out of nowhere.
