Need urgent advice: Parents are 64 + I’m 33 — what insurance should I buy?

I’m completely new to insurance and need some urgent guidance before I make any decisions or get pushed into buying the wrong policy.

I’m 33, Single Male, working in an IT company in India, and currently have health insurance through my employer. I want to get proper insurance coverage for myself and, more importantly, for my parents.

My situation:

  • Dad: 64 — has been drinking alcohol regularly for around 20 years and currently drinks every day. I’m not sure what impact this will have on health insurance eligibility, premiums, exclusions, or future claims.
  • Mom: 64 — generally healthy with no major health conditions, but has migraines and occasional knee/back pain.
  • Me: 33 — working in IT and covered by my company's insurance, but I’m considering getting my own health insurance as well as life insurance.
  1. Health insurance for both parents: should I buy separate individual policies or a family floater?
  2. Dad’s insurance: given his alcohol history, what should I realistically expect? Should I approach multiple insurers for underwriting?
  3. Mom’s insurance: what should I look out for regarding her migraine and knee/back issues?
  4. My life insurance: should I simply get a large term insurance policy? How much cover is reasonable at 33?
  5. My employer health insurance: should I also buy a personal health policy even though I already have company coverage?
  6. Money-back/return-of-premium insurance: are these actually worth considering, or is it better to keep insurance and investments completely separate?

I’m especially interested in real-world experiences with claims, particularly for senior citizens and people with a history of alcohol consumption.

I don’t know much about insurance

Is iOS Development Losing Demand in Canada, or Am I Missing Something?

I'm genuinely looking for some honest perspectives from people in the Canadian tech industry.

I've been searching for an iOS Developer role for the past several months, but I haven't received a single interview call. I've applied through LinkedIn, Indeed, company career pages, referrals, and several other job portals. Despite countless applications, nothing has worked.

What makes this even harder is that I've spent 10 years specializing in iOS development. Walking away from a decade of experience isn't an easy decision.

Lately, I've been hearing the same thing from many people, mobile app development is losing demand in Canada, and that opportunities for iOS developers are becoming very limited.

Some have suggested that I should pivot into areas like Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, Full-Stack Development, or even Business Analysis.

I'm at a crossroads and honestly don't know what the right move is. Is there still a healthy demand for experienced iOS developers?

Tax on ₹32,599 savings account interest under the new tax regime – any legal way to reduce it?

I’m filing my ITR under the new tax regime.

Taxable salary: ₹23 lakh
Savings account interest: ₹32,599
No home loan
No NPS contributions
No other deductions

From what I understand, the entire savings account interest is taxable under the new regime, and I’ll end up paying tax on it at my slab rate.

Is there any legal way to avoid or reduce this tax? Can any expenses be claimed against savings account interest, or is there any tax planning strategy that I’m missing?

Also, what do people in a similar salary bracket usually do to minimize tax on savings account interest while staying compliant with the law?

Should I stay in Canada until I get citizenship or return to India now?

I'm feeling pretty stuck and would appreciate some outside perspective.

I'm a Canadian PR holder and will become eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship in February 2027, as that's when I'll meet the physical presence requirement. My PR is valid until August 2031.

I'm a React Native developer with 10 years of experience and have worked in both India and Canada.

I've been applying for jobs in Canada since April 2026, but I hardly get any interview calls. At this point, it's becoming mentally draining. I recently accepted a remote job with an Indian company that pays around ₹2 lakh per month. Since I'm based in Canada, I'm working night shifts while continuing to apply for Canadian roles.

I'm torn between 2 options:

Option 1: Stay in Canada for another 6–7 months, become eligible for citizenship, and then decide whether to continue living here or move back to India.

Option 2: Move back to India now, continue my remote job, enjoy a better quality of life and lower cost of living, and keep applying for Canadian jobs from there even though it would delay my Canadian citizenship eligibility.

First solo trip to Vancouver (July 16–20)

I’m visiting Vancouver for the first time and doing a solo trip from Toronto from July 16th to July 20th (4 days). I’d love some local recommendations on what I absolutely shouldn’t miss.

A few places already on my list:

Stanley Park
Granville Island
Capilano Suspension Bridge
Grouse Mountain
Gastown
English Bay / Sunset Beach

I enjoy walking around, sightseeing, good food, beer coffee, nature, and taking photos.

I’m open to day trips as well if there’s something nearby that’s worth it.

Also, for a 4-day visit, would you recommend:
Using the SkyTrain + public transit, or
Renting a car?

I’ll mostly be staying in Burnaby, but I’m not sure if a car would make places like North Vancouver or other attractions much easier.

Any itinerary suggestions?

60 job applications 3 interviews hired laid off in 2 weeks. Is the Canadian tech market completely broken?

I’ve applied to 60+ jobs over the past few months. Out of all those applications, I got only 3 interviews, was selected for 2 roles, and finally accepted a contract position with a major US bank.

I honestly felt relieved for the first time in months. Then reality hit.

Joined the project, worked for just 2 weeks, and got let go because the project was suddenly ramping down.

At this point, I seriously don’t know what’s happening with the tech market in Canada. It’s exhausting mentally and emotionally trying to stay positive every single day.

Any other iOS or Android developers dealing with the same thing right now?
