How long do you plan on driving your mk7 civic?

How long do you plan on driving your mk7 civic?

I have an EU8 2002 Honda Civic 5dr hatchback with the D16V1 1.6l petrol engine. It’s mileage is currently sitting at 186,000 miles.

Apart from having to change the head gasket recently at 184,000 miles, the cars been very reliable. It was my dad’s old car before he gave it to me a year ago, but overall the cars been in the family for 13 years now. When we got it the mileage was 96,000, and now that the head gasket has been changed I’m sure it’ll go many more miles.

There are still a few of these driving around in the UK where I’m from, but they are slowly disappearing. And if I’m being honest, as happy as I am with this car I do definitely want to drive a better car in the new future.

Mechanically this car is great and the 5 door hatchback is extremely practical, with tons of rear legroom and a spacious cabin overall. But the suspension and ride quality is quite rubbish, and cabin isn’t very well insulated so wind noise is very loud. Fuel economy is nothing special either, I get 30-35 UK mpg average on mixed urban and motorway runs.

The bodywork isn’t the best either, the cars been crashed into twice and half the panels have been changed. I plan to drive this car to 200k miles at least (I only drive like 5k miles a year) but it’s a shame because I don’t know what I’d do with this car if I were to get another car. It’d be quite difficult to sell this car to someone given the mileage and crash history, and i definitely don’t want to scrap this car.

Idk that’s just a bit of background about my particular civic. I’m just wondering though for people in this thread how long do you plan on driving your civic, and what do you like and dislike about your civic? And do you guys also feel like changing/upgrading to a better car too?

A127 Road F’d up my car

Just came back to London driving back from Southend. Journey was smooth with nothing unusual to report until I hit the 70mph section from Basildon towards the M25. About a mile or so into this section (I can’t remember where it was exactly) I was driving on the left lane at about 65mph, when suddenly I see the state of the road.

It was night so I couldn’t see clearly until it was too late but the road was so uneven and full of potholes. My car is quite old and suspension isn’t great so you could really feel every bump.

As soon as we drove through the car started shaking quite vigorously, and I heard a bunch of rattling and heard something metallic drop too. I think my cars definitely took some damage.

Thankfully I made it home safely. Because it’s dark and I’m tired I didn’t really inspect the car thoroughly afterwards. But on the left hand side/passenger side of the car I see some new stone chips and scratches along the bottom of my doors which I definitely did not see before.

I’m gonna check tomorrow and update this thread for what damage actually occurred, but I’m quite pissed tbh. It’s totally unsafe for a 70mph road to be left in that state, and it could’ve caused an accident or more severe damage.

Has anyone else experienced trouble on that stretch of road? Please let me know because the council or whoever is in charge of the road ought to fix this asap.
