It's been in the works for about a year as it's the culmination of my Self Directed university project, and features paintings, drawings, lino prints and riso-printing. I've used lots of lo-fi techniques like single colour photocopying and collage, and digital editing to clean it up. It's been a labour of love and play, as I love artistic experiments. I've dedicated it to my dad who passed away last summer from cancer and was one of my biggest supporters.

It explores "hiraeth", a welsh word loosely interpreted as a nostalgia, longing or grief for a time and place you cannot return to and may never have existed. It deals with the future that was promised and the reality that was received, and ends with a hopeful embrace of creativity. I hope you enjoy!

I go through a lot of names when I look up memberships on the system at work. I've cone across "trendy" names and minor alternate spellings but...

Phrayer? Really?

I typed Freya first because that's probably the most standard version in the UK. Then Freja because thats the original spelling. I then try her surname. And at first I don't see it under the Fs. By chance I happen to scroll to the Ps and it took everything not roll my eyes. I mean, I'm not going to mock this little girl for the way her parents butchered her name.

I'm very sorry Phrayer (even now my phone wants to autocorrect that to prayer), I hope the goddess Freja herself doesn't take her wrath out on you. I hope it's on your folks, you poor sod.
