AV Hardware housing dilemma
Hi All, we just moved to an Edwardian period home that has a large lounge with chimney breast and wood stove installed. The house has loads of period features including alcoves either side of the chimney breast and period ceiling and wall moulding which I don’t want to obscure with shelves unless I have to.
I run an Onkyo AVR, CD played, DVD player, vintage quad 303/33 audio amp and the front speakers and sub are on an amp switch so I can share the fronts and sub with both home theatre and audio.
Speakers - fronts are monitor audio bronze 2
Center - monitor audio silver RS
Sub - B&W 600
Rear surround - Mon audio radius 90
In my old house I built shelves in the alcoves and mounted all the amp and AVR hardware on a shelf on show and whilst functional and convenient it was an eye sore.
So in my new home I don’t know how to house all the hardware in a way that is accessible yet hidden from sight. I was thinking of alcove cabinets that are freestanding to house the amps cd / DVD and all switches and Ethernet hub inside.
The front speakers would then have to be wall mounted or put on stands leaving the speaker wires exposed and on view.
This is meant to be a grand living room with home theatre discreetly installed rather than home theatre being the focus of the room
Any ideas on how I might achieve this challenge ? Do you guys have your gear on show or in cabinets ? How do you managed cables to speakers etc if in cabinets? Wheat to put the fronts ?
