To hell with the trope that being child free is selfish

I cannot stand the people who claim that choosing not to have children is selfish and I’ve gotten to a point where it downright offends me when people tell me this in response to my not wanting kids. Who the hell convinced these people that the only altruistic act is having kids and that the desire not to do so comes from an unwillingness to do anything for anyone else??? I’m at a point where this attitude downright offends me cause I spend A LOT of my life doing things for others, so for someone to insinuate that I’m selfish for not wanting kids is just bonkers. I have the most wonderfully rich social circle, in which quite a few of my friends have either lost a parent or have a terminally ill parent so I put a lot of time into helping my friends navigate this (gladly). My own mum is terminally ill and I’m her primary carer. I‘m getting my masters in a medicolegal field that is focused solely on improving health outcomes and safety for individuals and the general public, I work part time with kids in the education sector, and I volunteer weekly with vulnerable older people. I’m so proud to have built myself a life in which I am contributing positively to my immediate and broader community and for people to act like having kids is the only non-selfish thing you can do really grinds my gears!!!
