Stingray Leather Help; What are These, and How to Fix

Posted this to r/Wallets, but I am really needing help and advice from anywhere that can give insight.

I bought this stingray leather wallet from Real Mens Wallets a few months back, and I love it.

But just yesterday, I noticed these gray bumps, that almost look like marks caused by friction, or like they've been "sanded down." There were a small amount of these when I got the wallet, but not much, and I assumed maybe it was from scaling or was just a natural imperfection.

I sometimes store my wallet with other things, like a knife, or small plastic containers in my pocket. Could these be what's causing these? Could the stingray leather actually be fake? Is the dye coming off? Are these able to be fixed or remedied, and if they can be, then how?

Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
