The Soviet Bombing of Berlin in 1941

Eighty-five years ago, on the evening of August 7, 1941, fifteen DB-3 long-range bombers of the Baltic Fleet Air Force took off from Kagul airfield on the island of Ösel, now known as Saaremaa. The formation was led by Colonel Yevgeny Preobrazhensky, commander of the 1st Mine-Torpedo Aviation Regiment.

After a long night flight over the Baltic Sea, five aircraft reached Berlin, while the others struck alternate targets. On the morning of August 8, every crew returned to the airfield without losses. This was the first Soviet air raid on the capital of Nazi Germany.

The history of military aviation lies at the heart of the IL-2 Series. For us, it is important not only to recreate aircraft and aerial battles, but also to tell the stories of the people and events behind them.

The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

On August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Three days later, on August 9, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

The explosions caused immense destruction and claimed numerous lives. Many of those who survived the bombings continued to suffer for years from injuries, burns, and the effects of radiation exposure.

These events marked the first and, to this day, only use of nuclear weapons in warfare.

Eighty-one years later, we remember those who were killed and everyone whose lives were forever changed by these events. Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain a reminder of the tragic consequences of nuclear weapons and of how fragile peace can be.

Korea: IL-2 Series is Out!

Hello, pilots!

Today, a new chapter begins for our team and the entire IL-2 series—Korea is officially out.

This day was made possible by people who are genuinely passionate about history and flight simulators—people for whom not only the mechanics of combat aircraft and the finer points of piloting matter, but also the historical context: the era, the events, and the lives of the people who lived through them. People who spend long hours in the virtual sky and value every element that comes together to create the feeling of real flight and aerial combat.

Trailer here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5H9q_QNMCw

Thank you to everyone who waited for the game, followed its development, discussed the news, and shared their thoughts. Your support kept us moving forward and reminded us who we make games for.

We would also like to extend special thanks to our Early Access participants. You were among the first to take to the skies of Korea, learn the aircraft, work through Career, and explore the game closely.

Your feedback, observations, and suggestions became an important part of the development process.

Patchnotes - https://media.il2-korea.com/news/korea-release

We value your contribution, study your feedback carefully, and continue to draw on it as we keep working on the game.

The release is an important milestone, but not the final destination. We will continue to improve the game, expand its capabilities, and fill the skies with new events. The team is already working on future updates and a major expansion, which we will tell you about very soon.

Korea: IL-2 Series is available on the official website and on Steam. Choose your preferred platform, take your seat in the cockpit—and we will see you in the skies!

Dev Blog #83: Visual Effects

Picture this: you bank into a turn, lock your target in the gunsight, and see not just a flash, but a genuine shell impact: sparks, smoke, shrapnel, and burning debris. Now, every type of ammunition leaves a unique signature, so you’ll know exactly what caused the damage.

Read about other visual effects, such as explosions, mid-air collisions, and other in-game events coming soon, in the article on our official website: https://media.il2-korea.com/news/dd_83

The Beginning of World War I, 112 Years Ago

Today marks 112 years since Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914. This date is considered the beginning of the First World War, which drew dozens of nations into the conflict over the following four years.

At the beginning of the war, aircraft were used primarily for reconnaissance. However, purpose-built fighters and bombers soon appeared, and aerial combat became an important part of warfare.

The Flying Circus series is dedicated to this period in the history of military aviation.

The Korean War Armistice

Korea. IL-2 Series is dedicated to the Korean War — a conflict in which the skies became the arena for the first large-scale confrontation between jet fighters. At the same time, aircraft of a new era met piston-powered machines from the Second World War.

Today marks the 73rd anniversary of the armistice.

On July 27, 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed at Panmunjom. Twelve hours later, it came into effect, bringing more than three years of active fighting on land, at sea, and in the air to an end.

The agreement established the Military Demarcation Line and the Demilitarized Zone. The fighting ceased, but a peace treaty was never signed, and the consequences of those events continue to shape life on the Korean Peninsula to this day.

Bug Reports

We are striving to create the best flight simulator possible, and it should run reliably, without crashes or errors. That is why we are very grateful to everyone who submits bug reports.

To make the process of identifying and fixing issues more efficient, we have prepared a short guide. By following it when submitting a bug report, you help us identify the cause of the issue more quickly — and therefore directly speed up the preparation of a fix.

If the game crashes, please immediately open the following folder:

`\data\Missions`

and attach this file to your bug report:

`_gen.Mission`

It is important to do this before launching another mission, as the file may be overwritten.

Please also briefly describe what happened before the crash and include your PC specifications:

  • processor;
  • graphics card and driver version;
  • amount of RAM;
  • operating system;
  • VR headset model, if you use VR.

This information will allow us to identify the cause of the crash more quickly and begin preparing a fix.

You can submit your bug report through any of the following channels:

Thank you for your help!

Happy Moon Landing Day!

Today, we celebrate Moon Landing Day — the anniversary of Apollo 11’s historic landing on July 20, 1969.

Before Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon, both flew combat missions over Korea. Armstrong completed 78 missions as a naval aviator, while Aldrin flew 66 missions in the F-86 Sabre and shot down two MiG-15s.

From the skies over Korea to the Sea of Tranquility — their journey is a powerful reminder of just how far courage, skill, and ambition can take humanity.

“The Eagle has landed.”

Happy Moon Landing Day! 🌕🚀
