Should I adopt a cat from an abusive shelter?
There is a cat shelter near me which mistreats its cats. It is a business first, and rescue second. I've seen the cats in there and interacted with them and they all seemed so stressed and unhappy. It didn't take much digging to figure out that they weren't being properly taken care of.
I'm looking to adopt a cat in the near future (living alone with very little to do and want some company. Yes, I'm doing my research and am only gonna go through with it once I have all the finances and preparations ready.)
I so desperately want to save a cat from that place. They deserve a focused and quiet environment where they can actually relax.
The problem is I'd have to pay to adopt one of their cats, so I'd be supporting their business.
Should I get a cat from there even if it means supporting an unethical shelter?
Edit*
I looked into it more and found out it's usually free to adopt the cats (I expect it depends on the age and breed), which means I won't be supporting them by adopting. I'm going to look into places I can report to (I live in the UK). Someone suggested adopting from them and then taking the cat to a vet to be examined which could help build evidence against them.
I'm still going to give it some more thought and look into all the options though.
