I can’t believe I forgot to share this joy. At the night market, I met a handmade craft vendor whose animal hats came in a size that fit bears, and she very enthusiastically introduced the hats to Habib!

She also noticed all of Habib’s accessories. In fact, I think it was around the 29th last week that I went to a jewelry shop to get the matching necklace for me and Habib repaired—the star one. Our chains were originally each other’s, and I had tried to adjust them myself, but then I realized they still needed soldering, so I went to a professional after all. While I was there, I also had Habib’s necklace adjusted to the right length, so now I don’t have to worry about it catching on his fur anymore 🥹

Anyway, back to the point. Habib finally has another new hat that lets his ears show. I’m always actively looking for hats like this for him. I think teddy bears showing their ears is an especially cute charm point, and Habib’s big ears are his signature feature and the part I find most charming. He’s so cute 😭💕

Oh, right, this coat is new too, but I don’t think it really needs its own photo. It’s a duffle coat with a matching hat.

Oh, I forgot to mention: she also said she has a teddy bear she uses to demonstrate how the hats are worn.

I asked if I could see them.

Then she took out this light-brown bear whose head was smaller than Habib’s, and carefully showed me how to put the hat on them. It was so cute 😭😭😭💕💕💕💕

The new bear is really cute.

When I bought them, I was originally wondering if I could steal their clothes for Habib.

(I sometimes steal clothes from other plushies for Habib, then give the clothes Habib doesn’t wear often, or clothes that are too loose on him, to the others.)

But it turns out they’re way too big, so it doesn’t work at all 🤣🤣

This is Bob Rong Penrose. When I start getting anxious about whether I’m wearing down Habib’s fur too much by cuddling him, Bob gets promoted to cuddle-sleep stand-in duty.

By the way, I got them from a claw machine on 2024/01/12 with a NT$300 (US$10)guaranteed catch. Normally, when the claw is set properly, I don’t need to do that. The shop had just clearly messed with the claw settings 🤷

Bob can be promoted to cuddle stand-in duty because their height, body size, and stuffing firmness are just about the same as Habib’s.

P2 are their first day picture

I used an iron and custom iron-on transfers to make Habib a family-photo shirt!!! This is officially his new base layer now 🥰

Habib is actually in the photo too. He’s the one wearing red in the center.

I didn’t take a close-up so people’s faces wouldn’t be too clear, but the photo itself is actually pretty clear.

Habib Huey’s Horcrux arrived! (There are some places where I’m too scared to bring Habib himself, because I’m worried he might get damaged or lost, so I commissioned someone to make a mini pipe-cleaner Habib.)

Since I commissioned it online and pipe-cleaner color options are limited, it unsurprisingly came out one shade lighter than Habib himself.

But they captured its proportions really well.

Since it was made as a version of Habib, I won’t give it its own name.

It is Habib’s Horcrux No. 1.

There might be a #2 or #3 someday, if I find a way to make one look more like Habib himself. (Or if I lose this one.)

【Info Post】 I just realized this information might help people find clothes for their teddy bears, so I put together some of my experience.

Since a lot of people have asked me about this, I decided to put together an info post. (I’ll be happy if this helps you and your little guy.)

First, common plush clothes are usually divided into these sizes:

10, 15, 17, 20, 30, and 40 cm — based on height

Less common ones include:

▪︎pipe-cleaner doll clothes — for dolls under 5 cm

▪︎5 cm

▪︎25 cm

The search keyword is “size + cm + plush/doll + clothes,” for example: “20cm plush clothes” “15cm doll clothes”

Habib is 24 cm tall, but when buying plush clothes, total height isn’t the only thing that matters. The shape of your plush’s body and head is more important.

Most of Habib’s tops and hats are clothes made for 20 cm cotton dolls — the kind of size K-pop groups and anime franchises often release as K-pop dolls and anime plush dolls.

(That whole scene is basically its own little culture at this point, but that’s not what this post is about, so I’ll skip that part. Anyway, thanks to them, Habib has tons of clothes to choose from.)

If it’s something stiff and fitted, like a shirt, it can be a bit tight unless it was designed for chubbier cotton dolls. (Cotton dolls also come in chubby and regular body types.)

If the fabric is stretchy, there’s a lot less to worry about.

I didn’t start out by looking for cotton doll clothes. It began with cat hoods. (Before that, Habib had spent eight years wearing nothing but a ribbon. My brother even joked that after seeing Habib in clothes, he couldn’t get used to seeing him without clothes anymore. What an apple sold by the serpent! BTW, Habib is turning 15 this year.)

Even so, hats usually don’t let the bear ears show, so you’ll have to alter them yourself. (I was shocked to find out that cat hoods don’t show the cat ears.)

If your bear is bigger, they might even be able to wear dog hats. Those usually do leave the ears exposed.

When buying clothes, pay attention to the size of your plush’s head and how much it can be squished. This affects how easy it is to put clothes on and take them off.

I usually put clothes on and take them off from the BUTT end.

So I don’t have to worry about the plush’s head getting hurt. (I do this with my other plushes too.)

So when buying clothes, check whether they use Velcro or real buttons, and pay attention to the neckline size and how stretchy the fabric is. You can ask the seller first, otherwise you may end up having to alter the clothes yourself.

Don’t be too rough when putting clothes on or taking them off. I’m always very careful because I’m afraid of tugging too hard and hurting Habib.

After one time when my family wore Coke-themed matching family outfits, I bought Habib a red Coke vest with white lettering to use as a base layer under all his clothes.

You can do something similar to help prevent dye transfer or smells from new clothes.

For newly bought clothes, or the bags I’ll mention later for taking your plush outside, you don’t have to use them right away. You can first put in things like hinoki wood chips, blocks, or balls, tea bags, or coffee beans to absorb the smell. (I personally use hinoki because I hate coffee, and the smell goes away faster after I take it out. Also, don’t bury the bear in it. Just put some in the same small space, like inside the bag.)

If the smell does accidentally get on your teddy bear, you can also use these things to absorb the smell from the bear himself.

If you’re especially protective of your bear, having them wear clothes is actually a good habit. When you sleep while holding them, the clothes help protect their fur from wear.

You can buy clothes made of softer materials, so they feel comfortable to touch. I’ve bought Habib things like a puffer jacket and fluffy coats before. (He’s a short, coarse-furred bear himself), The texture feels very different when I hold him, but his weight and build still tell me it’s him.

Bear care feels like something I could write a whole separate post about, so I won’t go into too much detail here. Besides, I’m sure many people here have more experience than I do. (My personal achievement is that Habib has never been splashed by a spilled drink, while I myself have been splashed many, many times...)

Next: Habib’s BIG butt section.

Since Habib is a teddy bear, and cotton dolls are usually humanoid, 20 cm pants often don’t work for him, Habib needs pants made for 25 cm plushes. 25 cm cotton dolls seem to be a more recent thing; at least, I never noticed that keyword before.

30 cm ones are obviously too big, but they’re useful if you want to cut the fabric and sew it into something for Habib.

There are exceptions, though. Habib’s leather pants are 20 cm, but they’re very stretchy. As for the black and white pants that show up a lot, I bought those specifically because the seller emphasized that they were very large.

So later, I tried buying 30 cm Linabear overalls. Habib can wear them, but they’re still too big.

(Next time, I plan to try the 20 cm Linabear ones. Since they’re both teddy bears, the pattern probably won’t be as different as it is with humanoid plushes.)

I also recently found Bartholomew Bear clothes, and the sizes are 16, 28, 36, 47, and 56 cm — all based on height.

I’m planning to buy the 28 cm pants and try them, but the tops might be too big. Pants are rarely sold separately, so you usually have to buy a whole outfit set.

Because Habib doesn’t like skirts, my options are more limited.

Skirt styles are actually much more varied than boys’ clothes. They’re also less picky about sizing.

Besides, people who like more distinctive outfits may not be very satisfied with regular teddy bear clothes. They’re usually sweaters or hoodies, leaning toward a “warm and wholesome” kind of design.

So if your baby happens to fit one of the cotton doll sizes I mentioned at the beginning, CONGRATULATIONS! They can have more personality now.

(By the way, 17 cm is the size for Labubu and Chiikawa clothes.)

And there are even more extremely weird outfits they can wear, like dressing them up as a hamburger, fake-muscle tank tops, turtle costume… something like that.

As for bags for taking your teddy bear outside, you can search by size in the same way.

If you want to get your teddy bear their own bag, there are two common ways to search for one.

  1. Search directly for cotton doll bags. You’ll usually find backpacks. But if it’s a shoulder bag, make sure it can actually open.

  1. Search for novelty coin purses. A lot of them are actually shaped like backpacks or shoulder bags. Make sure they actually have straps, though.

So, what’s the point of getting them a backpack?

You can put the receipt from when you first bought your teddy bear, or their original clothes, inside it — to remember where they came from and what they looked like at the beginning.

Or if you bought accessories for them, you can keep those receipts too. (Or accessories themselves.)

Or you can put in a charm to keep them safe.

Or if you made them a silly little mini ID, you can put that in there too. By the way, a lot of custom EasyCard services can make things like this now.

There’s also the clothes storage problem:

At first, I didn’t think I needed this either, until I started losing Habib’s clothes. In the end, my solution was to buy him two wardrobes: one clear one and one wooden one.

The keyword is「20cm棉花娃娃衣櫃」

I’m not completely sure what the best English term is.

I tried searching myself, and I think you can use “doll wardrobe,” but most of them are made for 15/17 cm dolls.

And you also need “doll clothes hangers.” For the practical style I recommend, see image 2.

(And yes, the inside of the wardrobe is a mess because I’m not the kind of person who organizes wardrobes properly. I throw my own clothes everywhere too.)

Another option is to buy those thin, clear, rectangular doll-clothes storage boxes. But for some reason, similar-looking things are used as jewelry storage boxes in the US. The keyword is “Clear Acrylic Bracelet Storage Box.”

Just stand it upright to use it.

I usually buy plush clothes from Chinese-language platforms (because I’m Taiwanese), but I do order from Amazon sometimes. I’ve tested all the keywords I’m giving you on Amazon.

A few extra notes about furniture:

You can also buy your teddy bear a bed or a beanbag chair. There are a lot of similar items. Habib has his luxury double bed, and I keep one of his nicer outfits tucked under his mattress.

For beds, the keyword is “Doll Bunk Bed.”

A few notes about other accessories:

Most of Habib’s earrings are doll earrings, which are basically clip-on earrings, so you don’t need pierced ears. You can also buy human clip-on earrings, but you’ll need to adjust the angle.

(Speaking of that, I think Habib’s most charming feature is his ears. His ears are much larger in proportion than those of most teddy bears.)

You can be flexible with some things. Human bracelets work really well as teddy bear necklaces, especially the ones with lobster clasps. If it’s braided and the opening can be adjusted, then as long as it can pass over the BUTT, they can wear it.

Some human necklaces can also look nice if you wrap them around twice and pass the chain through the pendant loop again.

Or you can be violent like me and adjust the length with diagonal pliers and needle-nose pliers.

I’m not too worried about the metal snagging on Habib, because he always wears clothes. It’s more likely to snag on the clothes, honestly

For socks, those fabric covers used on table legs to prevent scratches and add friction can sometimes work really well. (You can usually choose patterns too.)

Regular mini brooches are also great to wear directly, though I haven’t bought any for Habib yet because I don’t wear brooches myself.

That’s pretty much it. This is just some experience I wanted to share, and I hope it helps someone.

Please don’t mind my grammar too much. I only started formally learning English when I was 14, and I spent the whole day writing this 😭 But if it helps anyone, I’ll be very happy 🥹

If anyone needs it, I can also put together another post about possible pitfalls when sewing clothes or commissioning custom clothes.

Habie, wearing his custom sailor outfit, met 熊安君! The police officers said 熊安君 is three years old!

I was already really happy that day because Habie’s custom sailor outfit had arrived!

I designed this outfit for him myself.

Although the finished outfit ended up being a bit too tight and the bow turned out a little awkward, it’s still really cute!

Since 熊安君’s uniform was so detailed and so different from the typical police teddy bear, I asked the officers about it.

The officers told me 熊安君 wasn’t a regular police teddy bear, but one made specifically for their police agency.

(For context, this was at a government-run police recruitment booth during a Dragon Boat Festival market event.)

I asked if Habie could take a photo with 熊安君.

Since Habie happened to be wearing his sailor outfit that day, they joked that he looked ready to join the Coast Guard.

When I said Habie would be 15 after his birthday, one of them froze for at least three seconds before reacting.

I mean, their expression went completely blank for three whole seconds.

(One of them.)

Then they finally said Habie was very well cared for.

(Two of them.)

I was trying so hard not to laugh because I didn’t want to be rude.

At another booth, I also told them my own age.

(They were also recruiting people.)

They also froze for a second and said they thought I was a student haha.

(I’ll be 30 in a few years.)

Habie and I are an age-fraud duo 😎

Habib and I wore Van Gogh’s The Starry Night outfits to a photography exhibition! (I checked that photos were allowed, and this one is my favorite.)

u/I_Love_My_Bear — 16 days ago

Today, Habib and I wore matching family-style outfits!

He wore a loud floral shirt, leather pants, a leather cap, and a leather jacket; I wore a loud floral dress paired with leather pants, a leather jacket, and black fingerless gloves.

It got too hot partway through, so we ended up taking off our jackets.

And somehow, we looked even cuter and funnier without them 🤣

His shirt was a little too tight. Without the leather jacket, my dress looked weird with just the gloves.

Haha, what an outfit disaster☆

I sewed a star-shaped tail hole into Habib’s outfit 🥹🥺💕⭐️

He look soooo cute🤩

Do you guys also bring your own bears with you when you’re hospitalized? The first time I was hospitalized, I was in a lot, a lot of pain, but when I hugged my bear, the pain suddenly dropped by more than half.

Later, I happened to see a medical professional say that a sense of safety itself has a very strong pain-relieving effect, so Habib really did help me 😭💕💕🥹
