I got this halterneck top at a very reduced price because the halterneck has been manufactured too long for anyone's proportions. I just want to know how I can shorten it.

I have a basic sewing kit and very basic hand sewing knowledge/experience.

The difficult part I imagine will be the lace trim, it runs all the way around the halterneck and I don't want to seam rip the whole thing off to reattach once the strap is shortened. I was just going to cut it, shorten the fabric part and then somehow attach it back to itself? I don't mind the lace not matching up if I do that, I just don't know how to then make it neat/stable.

If anyone has any tips on how to make it easier or better I would very much appreciate them.
