Employer eliminated my department and me let go immediately, is it worth speaking to a lawyer?
Recently got laid off because the company got rid of the whole department I was in. Worked there full time for a little bit over a year. I wasn’t given any notice, severance, termination pay, or even paperwork at the time, just got told it was my last day.
Trying to figure out if this is something worth talking to an employment lawyer about or if I should just move on. For anyone who’s dealt with this before, are the lawyers that only get paid if you win actually worth using? Also wondering if it’s better to ask the company about severance/termination pay first before contacting a lawyer, or if that usually goes nowhere.
Not really familiar with how any of this works so just looking for advice/experiences.
