North Main Street Extension

I'm fascinated by this "North Main Street Extension" in the city's fantasy reimaging of North Main Street. Where do they think this new extension is going?

By state law, they can't create a new at grade crossing of the Amtrak railroad. Are they imagining a new railroad and and river crossing bridge? MDOT is looking to replace the M14 freeway bridge and estimates it will cost $150 million, so even a non-freeway bridge over the railroad and over the river would probably cost at least $50 million.

I'd say they're connecting it to Huron River Drive (which is apparently going to be one way out of town only?) but then why do they have the one-way segment here at all?

I'm starting to think this project might not be well thought through....

Was the South Main Sidewalk Project Supposed to Take 2 Years?

I drove down South Main today and after all the sturm und drang over the summer there are...a bunch of I-beams peaking out of the ground for approximately half of the run of of where the the sidewalk is supposed to be. The Engage page says they done for the year. https://engage.a2gov.org/south-main-sidewalk

I don't recall hearing this would be a multi-year project and to be frank, clearing trees and installing a retaining wall doesn't sound that complicated. So what's going on? Because this is feeling like a really mismanaged project.

Diamond Brick Pattern

The new dorms UofM is building look nice, but this diamond brick pattern is really next level. I think if all the brickwork on the building used this pattern rather than in just a few places, the building would go from nice—if a bit plain—to really popping visually.
