Looking for a new bestie in Barrie/Innisfil
I moved to Innisfil about three years ago, and while I’ve met some lovely people since moving here, I still haven’t found that one local friend I really click with.
I’m a 48-year-old woman, in a long-term relationship, but don’t have kids. I’m self-employed, work from home and own a catering business. I’m still very close with my longtime friends, but unfortunately they all live over an hour away, which makes spontaneous dinners, drinks, movies, concerts, etc. pretty difficult. I’d really love to find a girlfriend around my age who lives in the Barrie/Innisfil area and is looking for the same kind of friendship.
A little about me: I’ve been a professional chef for about 30 years, so food is a huge part of my life. I love cooking, eating, trying new restaurants and cuisines, and I will happily plan an entire day around where we’re going to eat.
I’m a huge music person, mostly indie/alternative/rock and generally things that aren’t on Top 40 radio. I love movies, especially weird, interesting, dark, funny, cult, indie or just genuinely good ones. I’m also into art, plants, science, technology, trivia, puzzles, road trips and anything involving good food. I’m 420 friendly and have a hot tub, which seems like relevant information when advertising for a best friend.
One thing that’s actually pretty important to me: I’m an atheist and a skeptic, and not spiritual in any way. I’ve had plenty of religious and spiritual friends throughout my life and obviously have no problem being friends with people who believe different things, but I would really love to meet another woman who shares my worldview for once. Someone who values science, evidence and critical thinking, and who I can have interesting conversations with.
I think part of the reason I’ve found it difficult to make a really close friend here is that I’m not particularly interested in a lot of stereotypically “girly” or mainstream stuff. I shop for necessities, not as a recreational activity. I don’t care for rom-coms, reality TV, Sex and the City, or whatever everyone is currently obsessed with on TikTok. No judgement if you do, but if your idea of a great afternoon is smoking a joint, going to an art gallery, finding some hidden-gem restaurant, flipping through records and then watching a bizarre movie neither of us has seen, we’re probably getting somewhere.
Ideally you’re somewhere around 40–55, in Barrie/Innisfil or close by, and either don’t have kids or your kids are older and you have enough flexibility to actually hang out. Single/married/partnered doesn’t matter to me. I’m really just looking for someone funny, intelligent, curious, open-minded and a little unconventional who is also genuinely interested in developing a close friendship rather than collecting acquaintances.
I know making actual friends as an adult is hard, so I figured I’d put this out there. If any of this sounds like you, please send me a message and tell me a little about yourself. 🙂
