Builders and New Construction quality?

Looking for everyones opinions on the quality of new houses built in Barrie.

Are they good or cheapily made? Any builders to avoid or good builders we can trust?

Good areas with good new houses?

I live in the area in a very old home and looking to move to a newer one!

Any comment/opinion is appreciated :)

Support services for

Mother of a toddler and currently a house wife, long story short husband and I are going to be separating , we rent. No domestic violence or any issues where my life is in danger just the road unfortunately has come to an end for us. I don't work but I'm going to have to lean on some kind of housing support and don't know where to start. He's willing to financially support me but not to a level where he'll get me my own apartment or something like that. My family is abroad and since we have a child he's not comfortable if I go back home. Please be kind I'm not trying to bash him I just need some support navigating the next chapter. Thank you

Medical volunteering oppurtunities starting September

Hello! I recently graduated from university and am taking a gap year while applying for medical related post-grad programs. I'm looking to get more exposure working with patients, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for places (besides RVH) that take volunteers? Thanks :)

We need to treat people with dignity regardless of where they're from.

A friend of mine who had moved here from India several years ago, was spending time at the beach to relax and enjoy the view, A few kids came up to him, threw sand at him, told him to go back to his country, and took his car keys. I wish to see us stop this behaviour and value one another as fellow human beings. This behaviour is hurtful, he is one of the most welcoming and kind people I know, he, nor is anyone else deserving of this treatment. Please, let us treat all people regardless of nationality with dignity, respect and compassion. We are all human, we all bleed the same way, let us look after one another.

Ed Sheeran Concert

Hi guys! Is anyone from Barrie going to Ed’s concert on Thursday August 20th and how are you planning to get back to Barrie once the concert is over? The last go train time from Union to Allandale is 7:54 and the concert starts at 5:30 and he comes out at about 8:00 and ending the concert around 10-10:30 pm. I have tickets and I don’t know how I’m going to make it back. There are like 2 hour buses but they’re while the concert is still happening. Plus ubers would probably be over $100+ that night. Please let me know because I do really want to go but probably have no chance at it anymore.

Case Mia using Ai for ads.

Look at that questionable , trypophobia-inducing “meal”.

Couldn’t you just take a photo of your food? Or does it not look appetizing enough? Surely SOMEONE on your staff knows how to use Microsoft paint or photoshop at the very least?

Techno Scene?

Hi, I love Techno, I am also a DJ and throughly enjoy mixing Techno.

Typically this requires me to drive down to toronto to find open decks or a proper rave. So I do quite a lot of driving.

Is there a local scene that I am as of yet unaware? Even for EDM more broadly? I was walking past On the Mark vintage a few days ago after that Bahamas concert in downtown barrie and noticed a flyer for an open decks night targeting dance music DJs but it was a one night event and unfortunately the date had already passed. Looked up the location provided and it just appeared to be someone's house.

As far as I am aware, nightlife in barrie essentially amounts to country, rock, and indie bands at spots like the ranch, and some rap/generic club music at spots like queens.

Is there any proper Techno around? Is there any interest in Techno or more broadly Dance music amongst the community?

Lucca Tuscan Kitchen 👌

Not sure why it took so long for my delivery apps to suggest this place, but holy shit was it good. Got the Morta and the Bad Lucy and the Morta might be one of the best traditional Italian deli sandwiches I've ever had.

About a year ago I asked you all for food recommendations and I built a Google Maps list with all your suggestions. I'm going to share an update post on all the places I've tried since, but this place is newer so didn't make the list. It's a must try and absolutely blows the American chains we are inundated by out of the water (Jimmie John's, Firehouse Subs aand Jersey Mike's down the street from each other is criminal).

Barrie is full of hidden gems, highly recommend trying this one out!!

[FOR HIRE] Web Designer Looking to Collaborate With Graphic Designers

Hey everyone,

I run InfaWeb, a small web design business based in Ontario. I started it this summer through Ontario’s Summer Company Program and I'm looking to connect with graphic designers who have clients needing websites.

If you handle branding, logos, or other design work but don't build websites yourself, I'd be interested in collaborating or exchanging referrals.

I build custom, mobile-friendly websites for small businesses and can work with an existing brand identity or designs you've already created.

I'm also happy to refer clients who need dedicated branding or graphic design work.

Portfolio: https://www.infawebdesign.com/

Feel free to DM me if you'd be interested in working together.

Weekend parking

Hi! I’m taking the go-train to union station from Barrie for the first time, I just got a new vehicle and refuse to drive it in Toronto. I’m driving down from north bay- the problem is I’d be parking for more than 48hours so parking at the station looks like it’s a no-go (fri-sun) is there any secure paid parking lots I can leave my car in for this extended time? Thanks in advance for recommendations :)

Which Traffic Lights Should be Changed in Barrie?

Virtually all traffic lights are not timed in Barrie. Find that you sit there for no cars to pass the other way so many times.

For me the following 3 are the worst:

  • Codrington and Duckworth

  • Codrington and St. Vincent

  • Ross and Maple

All 3 could easily be replaced with a stop sign in one direction.

Mattamy Homes — Bought in June 2026, now seeing much better incentives. Is there anything I can do?

I bought a unit at Mattamy Homes in Vicinity West in Barrie and signed my APS in June 2026. My closing is on November 2026

At the time I signed, the incentives I received were:
$15,000 off the base price OR $30,000 in design upgrades
Closing costs capped at $0

I recently found out that Mattamy is now offering much better incentives on what appears to be the same/similar units:

$40,000 off the base price 50% off design packages

*plus some realtors offer 10k cash back after closing but my current realtor did not provide anything.

So essentially, I’m now looking at a pretty significant difference compared to what I received when I signed only a couple of months ago.

I understand that builder incentives change and that I agreed to the terms in my APS. But I’m wondering if there’s anything I can realistically do at this point.

Has anyone had experience with Mattamy adjusting incentives after signing an APS because of a new promotion? Is it worth contacting the sales office and asking them to match the new incentives, provide a credit, add something to my schedule, or offer additional upgrades?

Or am I basically stuck with the original deal and just have to accept that I’m potentially ~$22,000–$40,000 at loss

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with something similar, especially with Mattamy or another Ontario builder. Thanks!

***Wanted to add that they did not provide any appliances, not even a stove.
