State of Emergency to Address Encampments - Unofficial update July 5

The last official update was Feb 12....

Can we all agree this initiative was the Mayor and Council trying to score political points in an election year? Every year the visible homeless population swells and shrinks with the seasons.

The politicians and city leaders were quick and proud to announce when the city was down to less than a handful of encampments in the dead of winter while the credit for the reduction. Now that the city is back up to dozens where's the action and responsibility?

The addicts and criminals are doing their part... If there's no calls do a foot patrol up and down Dunlop

Does anyone have experience with living in a motorhome year round in the area? And where do you park in the winter?

I live alone in a basement apartment right now and my landlord lives upstairs. Thinking of buying a motorhome to live in year round. I'm pretty nomadic too and don't really like staying in one spot for too long however Im happy with the employment I have in Barrie and don't plan on leaving. Just wondering if anyone has experience with year round motorhome living in the area? I've grown up here so I'm aware how the winters are lol

Seeking Game Masters!

I have been running a free, monthly Game Day for Pathfinder Society (PF2E) at Sir-Games-A-Lot in the Bayfield Mall since the start of the year. I've had a great response, but I need to recruit more GMs if I am going to grow the Game Day any further.

If you are interested in GMing (or playing) Pathfinder 2nd Edition or Starfinder 2nd Edition, DM me! We typically run the first Sunday of each month. I would like to be able to be able to start running multiple simultaneous tables, hopefully with a rotating group of GMs. There is no cost, I will provide the adventures and support.

Please reach out if you're interested!

Best tv internet package in Barrie?

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for a cheaper price for tv and internet. I have Bell satellite and internet and home phone now. It costs over $230/mth!!

There's certain channels that my wife and I want such as Life, W, Treelife, Bravo, Food, TSN amongst others.

Bell quoted us $180

Rogers is $152

Is Rogers the best option?

Anyone going to UofGH?

Hi, everyone. I’m a new graduate from SJO and I’m going to University of Guelph-Humber this september. Just wondering if anyone else is going to the university of guelph-humber? I know it’s a niche school but it’d be nice to know if anyone else is going there too. Also, if anyone IS going there, are you in residence or will you be commuting since I know GH is largely a commuter school.

Wtf was that…

I don’t know wtf I just witnessed.
After a disgusting motel and canceled reservation in the Soo, we decided to keep driving.
About an hour outside of Barrie, we got really tired so we pulled over at a rest stop to try and take a nap.

Suddenly this car comes flying behind us and stops right at the guard rail. Music blaring. Back wiper on. It’s not raining.

After quite awhile, the passenger window goes down, a hand comes out, I think the person throws tissue.

Then immediately, the driver gets out, marches around the car, picks up “the tissue” which is actually a bra, gets back in the car, and drives away

Looking for opportunities to help!

Hi everyone, I’m a 16yr old student born and raised in Barrie ON, I’ve been thinking about my future and I’ve realized I want to help people by going into medicine, to really understand how to help people I want to try and tackle some of the minor issues in Barrie, so what do you think are the main issues in Barrie that can be targeted by youth? I can even start a club if necessary but some things I had in mind were (trying) to build an app that connects local seniors with volunteers, but once again I’m really excited to here your opinions on how the youth of Barrie can help!!!

Dentists that use federal fee guidelines instead of provincial?

Hi I'm looking for a dentist in Barrie that uses the federal fee guidelines and not the provincial fee guidelines as I've heard that's the way to go if you're on the Canada Dental Care Plan. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stop signs

Hopping on the train of bad Barrie driver posts.

Stop signs are not a fucking suggestion. I was walking to the Essa Food Basics plaza around 5:00pm this evening to get some takeout, and while crossing the Coughlin/Emms intersection as I was over halfway across, someone blew the stop sign and came to a stop in the middle of the intersection to the right of me.

When I am in pedestrian mode I always fully stop at crossings, attempt to make eye contact with any driver that is there before walking across (other than you folks who I can't see with your stupid blackout tint, I'll wait for you to go first since I can't trust you see pedestrians), and try to gauge the speed and intent of vehicles approaching to decide if it's even safe to attempt crossing. I will also do the "courtesy trot" just to show I appreciate your time. But if someone is nearly fully across the road they shouldn't have to worry about getting hit or having to potentially jump out of the way of an incoming car.

I don't know when the Holly area became full of psychopath drivers. I lived on Brown St. from 1995-2016 and then Sunnidale/Cundles area until this year when I moved back to Emms in May, but I have been shocked lately. I have always been aware of the badass/cool youths who like to car hop and do other activities in this area, but never did I have to worry about getting hit by vehicles.

There are so many young people in this area, at the very least please think of them when you are driving in residential areas. You are nearly home, a few extra seconds coming to a complete stop will not change anything or ruin your evening however, hitting a pedestrian most definitely will.

Drive safe everyone and have a great weekend!

Where to find female friends

Hi everyone, I’m a 20 year old girl with no female friends in the province. Where are great places to make friends here? I’ve tried to make friends but they just ask me to hangout if they need something and I don’t want that.
