Car A/C repair shop recommendations

I have a 2017 VW that needs a/c repair. I had it tested, all of the refrigerant leaks out and they believe it requires a new condenser. I received this quote 2 years ago, so I wouldn’t doubt if it’s increased now.

I was quoted $800-1000 at my mechanic. I know prices differ depending on make/model, but I’m just looking to see if anyone has had this repair done around Barrie, what the price was, and any possible recommendations for shops.

I use my car for work and I don’t think I can handle a fourth year of no a/c in my car.

Thanks.

I built a free tool to find benefits you're eligible for in Canada myeligible.ca

7 questions about where you're at in life and it'll tell you what you're eligible for federally, provincially and municipally (62 cities so far). 20 languages. I hope its helpful for many.

Need bcin designer to help with retroactive building permit for a bathroom

Hi everyone,

I recently had a bathroom put in by a contractor who incorrectly told me I didn't need a permit. I know I should have known better.
Long story short, a neighbor complained, and the City of Barrie has issued a notice to initiate a building permit application.
I need to submit a retroactive permit application ASAP, which means I need to hire an independent, BCIN-qualified designer or draftsman to come to my house, complete an "as-built" assessment of the plumbing/framing, and draft the professional layout drawings for the application.
Does anyone have a reliable, affordable local recommendation in the Barrie / Simcoe County area who specializes in code compliance, permit drawings, or navigating city enforcement?

Thanks in advance!

Gutter Cleaning

Has anyone had their gutters cleaned recently? I just received a quote for $400 which seemed quite high for a cleaning. We live in a town house so the back is higher up with a steep roof. Any recommendations or suggestions?

35F looking for chill local gal pals in Muskoka/Barrie/Orillia area

This feels mildly vulnerable to post, but here we are :)

I’m turning 35(F), not originally from the area, and realizing I’d really love to make some genuine female friendships around Muskoka/Barrie/Orillia-ish. I'm in Muskoka, but visit surrounding areas often.

I'm pretty low-key and easygoing. I love hanging by the water with snacks, games, crafts or books, going for walks/hikes, window shopping, exploring cute little areas/towns, attempting pickleball badly, learning golf very slowly, or rotting on the couch binge-watching something with snacks and weed. Recently also started exploring taking classes in sewing, painting, etc. I can yap, but also love to listen. I'm told I'm funny and so much myself that's its easy for others to be themselves too.

To be clear, I’m genuinely just looking for platonic female friendships/gal pals. Not dating, not anything weird lol.

Bonus points if you’re also in your “I want bestie girlfriends but it's hard and scary” era, and consider a walk, coffee, and sitting by water a full itinerary.

If this sounds like your vibe, message me queen!!

Zenetec Interior Detailing

Just wondering if anyone here has had any good (or bad) experiences with the Deluxe Interior Detailing at Zenetec? I like the price point at only $80 but I know sometimes you get what you pay for.

If anyone’s had it done, how was it? Is it worth it?! I would like to go today 🙏🏻

TIA

Looking for referrals for roofers

Hey all,

It's time to have our shingles and eavestroughs replaced. I got a business card for Mr. Roofing Inc., as they have done some roofs in my area (Grove East).

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions and/or any idea of pricing? I have never done a roof before, so I have no clue what we're looking at, cost wise. Also, don't want to get ripped off :\

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Duct cleaning recommendations

Looking to get one done, location Barrie.

What's the cost reasonably for an average size house?

I see ad for 150, then I heard there's add on charge which end up much more.

Anyone else feel like their social life kind of just… stopped after moving here?

Moved here a while back and still figuring out how to actually meet people outside of work.

Not looking for dating apps or Facebook groups that die in a week. Just wondering if anyone else finds it genuinely hard to build a social life here as an adult.
What’s worked for you (if anything)?

Looking for a wheelchair lift technician

I’m trying to find someone who can repair a hydraulic wheelchair lift, the kind usually used in buses/vans. There’s some wiring issues that I can’t seem to figure out.

The lift is currently not installed and will be used by my dad to get in and out of his basement apartment safely. Looking to get this done at a reasonable price.

Frank Gallagher / free “ginger” man question

Question about a local. Due to the sub rules I can’t name him. & I’m somewhat new here. Correct me if I’m wrong please.

Is he not on assistance? I keep seeing him asking for $ for his upcoming court case. I’m confused what he wants to be free from and why he thinks cold water and saunas / chalk drawing needs to be funded by the public.

We all are poor, struggling etc. why I should give $ to him for “food consciousness / legal fee support” is beyond me.

If you’re reading this, I understand your struggling (we all are) but maybe try to get a job again and become a functioning member of society and stop chalk drawing and wondering around the ice with a sauna tent posing in a Slav squat with your arms out and singing while riding a bicycle. Can’t get a job? Can you go on EI or disability?

There’s many places offering assistance. You’re becoming so obsessed with your hardships that it’s consuming you and becoming the only thing you identify with.

Snap out of it. get a collar shirt from value village.

Go to court. Do your time if you are sentenced. Your actions have consequences. You violently broke a man’s arm. You disrespectfully chalked on a veterans memorial during preparations for the Remembrance Day parade.

Now you’re appealing this sentence and want the public to help $$$?

Free yourself from yourself brother.

Families in Barrie what do you honestly like/dislike about living there?

Hi everyone,

My family and I currently live in Milton and we’re thinking about moving to Barrie because we’d really love to be closer to the water and have a better lifestyle balance for the kids.

We have a 4-year-old and a 6-month-old baby, so we’re trying to understand what everyday family life is actually like there.

Would love honest opinions on things like:

  • good family-friendly neighbourhoods
  • schools/daycares
  • safety
  • hospitals/healthcare infrastructure
  • community centres, parks, and kids activities
  • areas to avoid (if any)
  • traffic/commute
  • overall sense of community

Would especially love to hear from people raising young kids or anyone who moved from the GTA.

Thanks so much!
