Rug-making styles and techniques introduced to Hungarians by the Ottoman Empire, such as flat-weaving and knot-piling, have been widespread in Hungary since the 16th century.

Similar rugs can be found in other countries of the region, such as Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Albania.
