You were there, in the light
Deep inside the forest,
A cool breeze blows by
In the afternoon light.
Spring blossoms.
Water gushes.
The petrichor brings me life.
My two beasts
walking beside me,
I am being pulled, as if I am hooked.
It’s an invisible force,
Moving through me—
My final destination: this nook.
Biff first, myself in the middle,
The blind one brings up the rear.
We all felt something, calling us here.
You were there, in the light.
The light of the sun on ancient moss,
The contrasts of the craggy canyon,
The water, rushing—ushering in new life.
You weren’t really there,
Not physically (we are states away).
Your soul, however—
She was there.
She too is going through change—
Change that makes it hard to come up for air.
Looking down this gorge,
The thought passed me by:
Change barrels through you,
Like the alpine spring water
Flows through this canyon.
The unspoken forces are gently guiding our way.
I know this because
Someone told me
You were there, in the light.
