Thoughts on working with an architect remotely? I live in a rural state without any local residential architects. I’m looking to hire someone who freelances. I imagine it’s common this day in age, but wondering if there’s anything I’m not thinking about?
Hired a drafter to create a custom floor plan. Wanted to stay under 5000 sq feet. A lot of the main floor of this floor plan aligns with our general wants: separation of kitchen, large defined foyer, large mudroom, kitchen location due to land/direction, etc. However, the scale is massive. Room sizes make no sense and would be impossible to furnish. Wasted space. 8000 sq feet total - wtf!!! A 19x12 foot sitting room? Huh?She’s been saying she can ‘slim it down’ but it never meaningfully happens. It just grows. The front elevation is oddly asymmetric and looks like a modern farmhouse - exactly what I said I did NOT want. I want a traditional farmhouse as this is on an old homestead acreage in the Midwest. The whole thing is a disaster. I’m stunned she even sent this to us. Is this salvageable? Do I need to cut and run? This girl clearly bit off more than she can chew…our fault. We didn’t know any better 🤪
