Does anyone hear Noah’s musical influences on The Great Divide album?
I feel like I can hear his lineage in these songs. Jason Isbell I can clearly hear throughout. I already know Noah is a fan because he covered Jason’s If We Were Vampires, but even if I didn’t know that, I would hear the influence especially on Dan, but also in Willing and Able, and in Dashboard, and in Noah’s brilliant and evocative lyrics. I can hear Amanda Shires fiddle in some of the songs, too - I know it’s not really her, but it sounds like Jason and Amanda sometimes. It makes me happy.
This part is just what I hear - no idea if Noah is a fan. I hear a little of The Decemberists when I listen to Doors. Weirdly, I get some Sufjan Stevens when I listen to Downfall.
Anyone else hear any musical DNA in these songs? I’m not in any way saying that the album is reductive, on the contrary, I think it is quite original and unique. But I like wondering about lineage.
