Changing my wali
Assalamualaikum wr wb everyone. This is my second post here after months. For those who don’t know my previous one, I was in an abusive marriage but الحمد لله I left long ago and life is pretty calm now, although something has been bugging me for the past few days.
I met my wali through my ex husband (they’re both friends), he’s an imam from a masjid in another country. I have no ill feelings toward him but it makes me feel weird that my own guardian (i’m a revert) is probably still friends with my abuser, therefore I feel more comfortable changing my wali if it’s possible.
And even throughout my divorce or severe arguments I had with my then husband, I felt as if he leaned more towards protecting him instead of truly seeing him as he is.
Has someone done this before? Should I consult with a sheikh if this is permissible? I’ll pray Istikhara but I need some advice on the matter, JazakAllah khair🥲
