[29M] 2 years on inconsistent Fin/Minox. Seeing some progress but experiencing mood side effects. Advice on next steps or a transplant?
- First photo : Before treatment (March 2024) . Keep in mind I might have had a haircut right before this, I don't perfectly recall. SHORT HAIR
- Second photo After (May 2026) - LONG HAIR. Roughly 3 weeks after a haircut.
- Third photo : October 2025. I just wanted to show how the angle, lighting and the time I had since my haircut (in this case, maybe 72h max ?) affects the photo
Hi everyone. I'm using a translator as I am from Europe.
I've noticed thinning on my crown for about 7 years now. It's not visible from the front, only from the top or from behind when I'm sitting down.
For the past two years, I’ve been taking oral Finasteride 1mg in the evening. I admit I have missed quite a few days, but I try never to break the streak for more than three days. I also use topical Minoxidil 5%, trying to apply it every morning and sometimes at night (5-7 sprays). Honestly, I really struggle with consistency here as well. This is my entire hair routine, and I wash my hair once or twice a week max.
Regarding side effects : I believe I'm experiencing a lower libido and increased depression. I was already feeling down before starting the treatment, but it feels worse now BUT I think it may have nothing to do with medications and just me not progressing anywhere in life for 7 years.
I'm wondering if I should stop Finasteride, switch to Dutasteride, or try something else. I am also considering getting a hair transplant during my time off this coming September, and maybe another plastic surgery under my eyes.
One detail : I recently found out I have Demodex mites in my eyelashes. I wonder if they could be affecting my scalp and contributing to hair loss as well ?
Is it worth seeing a dermatologist or should I do a HT ? What kind of tests or exams should I ask for ?
Thanks in advance for your help !
