Heyoooooo. I am very new to fishing and semi-new to the area. I have been fishing at a few spots around here (Dorey Park, Deep Run Park, James River) but I am looking to try fishing from a canoe/kayak. Is there anywhere I can rent a boat to fish specifically? Or even fishing groups to go out with? I am not interested in getting in the rapids lol. Thank you!
Just looking for general insight. Our child is going on 14. For the younger teen years he has had a Gabb phone (which alerts to harmful texts) and he has a school provided laptop. No phones/laptops in the room at night.
The school says that the laptops are “safe and monitored” but I am failing to see how. He has been able to access anything he wants on the internet, he can have unmonitored conversations in Gmail, the kids have found away around the VPN, and have found a way to erase browser history even though this feature was “disabled”.
We fairly regularly and openly/honestly monitor both the phone and the laptop. There was an incident where he was ended up on a highly inappropriate site, which we found despite the erased history. This was discussed and handled and we were inclined to think this was the first time, as we regularly do checks. However, my partner reached out to the school to warn them, as our son said that someone taught him how to get around the blocks. The school immediately placed blame and called him into the office the following day. They called us back after talking to him with a completely different tone, they were apologetic and said that apparently this had been out of control for a while. Wtf???? Parents had no notification of this. My issue overall isn’t even that he ended up somewhere on the internet he wasn’t supposed to be, bc I get it, kids/teens are curious.
I am struggling with balancing all of the tech, especially when the school seems entirely ready to place blame on the child/parents and he is getting older, so ideally we would like to monitor less. How do other parents handle technology provided by the school??
