Finally heading to TU Dresden! 🎉

After a long application journey and a lot of waiting, I’m very happy and grateful to share that I’ve been admitted to TU Dresden for the M.Sc. Nanoelectronic Systems this winter semester. I’m an incoming student from India, and TU Dresden has been the university I had been hoping for the most. Since the result came in quite late, getting the admission feels especially rewarding. 🙏

During the application process, I applied to 8 universities and was fortunate to receive admits from 5 of them:

  1. TU Hamburg – Microelectronics and Microsystems
  2. University of Siegen – Electronics Design Technology
  3. Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences – Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
  4. TU Ilmenau – Micro and Nano-Technologies
  5. TU Dresden – Nanoelectronic Systems

Now that Dresden is finally happening, I’d love to connect with people and learn a little more about what awaits me:

  • Anyone living in Dresden who could share some insights about the city, culture, student life, etc.?
  • Anyone admitted to Nanoelectronic Systems for the upcoming winter semester? I’d love to connect and exchange information.
  • Anyone already studying at TU Dresden, especially seniors who could share their experiences and advice? Would be great to connect!
  • Anyone travelling from Bangalore to Dresden/TU Dresden around 1 October? It would be great to make an acquaintance before the journey.
  • Anyone currently looking for accommodation in Dresden while waiting for the Studentenwerk dorm results? Perhaps we could share leads or coordinate our search.

Looking forward to starting this new chapter, meeting new people, making some great friends, and getting to know Dresden properly. 😊

Need guidance from Indians in Hamburg: How did you manage accommodation and your first day in Germany? 🇮🇳🇩🇪

Hi everyone,

I'll be moving to Hamburg this October to pursue my Master's at TU Hamburg (TUHH). Like many international students, the biggest challenge I'm facing right now is finding accommodation before arriving in Germany.

I've been applying through Studierendenwerk, WG-Gesucht, Kleinanzeigen, HousingAnywhere, and have also contacted several landlords directly. Unfortunately, nothing has been confirmed yet.

I wanted to hear from fellow Indians who have already gone through this process, especially those studying or living in Hamburg.

I have a few questions:

* Were you able to secure accommodation before flying to Germany, or did you stay in a temporary place (Airbnb, hostel, hotel, etc.) first?
* If you booked temporary accommodation, how many days did you book for? Was it enough?
* How did you eventually find your permanent accommodation?
* If you arrived without a confirmed room, how stressful was the process?
* After landing at Hamburg Airport, what did you do on your very first day?
* Did you go directly to your accommodation, or did you first visit the university or International Office?
* How did you travel from the airport with all your luggage? Did you use public transport, Uber, taxi, or something else?
* What essentials should I carry or arrange before landing that first-time international students often forget?
* Are there any common mistakes you made that you would advise new students to avoid?

I'd also appreciate any advice regarding:

* Documents to keep readily accessible during travel.
* SIM card, internet, groceries, and other immediate necessities.
* Registration (Anmeldung), bank account, residence permit, or any other tasks that should be prioritised in the first few days.

Finally, if there's anyone from India who is **also travelling to Hamburg around 1st October**, it'd be great to connect. Having someone to navigate the first few days with would definitely make things a little less overwhelming.

Any advice, experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! 🇮🇳❤️🇩🇪
