Looking for advice on great toe pain with climbing shoes
Hi guys,
I just wanted to reach out and ask anyone for advice, maybe if anyone has gone through something similar. So I was using rentals for a couple months and I decided to snag a pair of the scarpa instinct VSR’s LV’s. I tried them on in size 42.5 despite my street shoe size being 42 and most of the shoe fit great, the heel felt nice and snug without pockets, but admittedly my big toe felt a little bit tight. I thought it wasn’t a big deal and it would just take some time to get used to the downturn pressure but it’s been really bad. When I first put them on for a climbing session, I feel that it is very painfully compressing my toe and I have to practically walk on my heels until I reach the mat. After I start walking around a little bit, the pain starts getting a little bit better. I get some climbs in and they feel pretty good, but eventually as the session goes on, I have to start taking them off after climbs. The real problem is after the session is over though. When I slip them off, I have to be very careful not to catch my toe on anything because flexing my toe a lot or certain movements will cause excruciating pain. This pain lasts for at least 2-3 days progressively getting better until I climb again and it repeats. I’ve done about 10 sessions with these shoes and I don’t really feel the fit improving. I’m just a little bit confused because I didn’t downsize or anything and it still feels almost too small? Did anyone have these issues early on in their climbing career or does anyone have advice on what shoes I can look into? Thank you
