To port or not port(able)
Hello, I'm trying to get a new air conditioner for my 3rd-floor apartment that gets insanely hot in the summer (yesterday it was 87 in there, its an old building).
The last two summers I was using a portable upright unit that did a great job of cooling my bedroom and being relatively quiet. This year, when I tried to use it, it appears to have kicked the bucket. When I put in the old window unit I had (not ideal for fire escape purposes) there was an abundance of mold inside the ducts, of which I cleaned a decent amount of, but still would like to replace as it's 10+ years old.
Budget is a major consideration as ideally I'd like to use the window fan I got as often as possible to cut down on energy use/costs. There is unfortunately only one window in my bedroom for me to work with, so I can have the fan in, or the AC in.
So my question is, with the budget/safety/energy use considerations, do you think portable is a good choice for me? I don't necessarily mind having another in-window unit, but I would still like to use the fan when I can (much quieter, cheaper, and easier access to fire escape). Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated as well as any recommendations.
