Need help picking out RAM

Hi all, i’ve been out of the PC building world for a good while now. I’m upgrading my old rig to enter the AM5 and DDR5 era of PC gaming.

I’ve gone from an asrock b450 to a MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX wifi. I know it’s a pretty big jump in MOBO quality but I’ve got a rather good gauge of what CPU and GPUs to be using and the money to use. However, I really don’t know jack about the RAM situation other than it being expensive due to Ai companies.

To get to my main point, my first instinct was to buy 4 x 16 but my “research” (just watching various tech youtubers) had found that using 4 sticks of ram may actually harm their total speeds. I’m looking to get the most amount of memory and speeds possible for my situation. I’d love a good explanation as to why DDR5 ram seemingly can’t handle the 4 sticks of ram. Additionally, I’d love some advice as to what I should be buying.

and just for funsies I’m upgrading from a 3700X and 4060 ti to a 9600x and 5070 ti.
That being said i’m actually going to keep my 4060ti for a bit before I actually get the 5070ti.
