Fiancé's dad's girlfriend.

Hello reddit, just looking for somewhere to vent, was posted to entitled people but was told to post here.

She isnt really my MIL but theres no other word for her atm

I (20 F) have just had my first baby in November 2025, my Fiancé (Let's call him Christian) and I took her to meet Christian's dad and his girlfriend (lets call her Karen, so it doesnt get confusing) Karen and I are not close at all, in fact this was the first time I had ever met her properly since telling Christian's side of the family that I was pregnant.

When we went over she decided to take it upon herself to call herself Nan. She is not Nan. Nor will she ever be Nan. My mum decided that she should be the one to say something to her since my mum isnt afraid of conflict, she waited until after Christmas and then texted her.

Later on, Christian's dad texted Christian's mum to say that Karen was very upset and didnt understand why she couldnt be Nan. For context it makes Me, my mum and Christian's mum very uncomfortable that she was calling herself that.

The second time we went over it was so that Christian's little sister (14) from Newcastle (call her Liz) could meet the baby (call her Nora) Karen spent the whole day taking Nora away and giving her to her own Daughter (Ella). She removed the shoes I had put on her because she thought they were 'restricting her movement'... Nora couldnt even sit up by herself, the shoes were put on to keep her socks on so she wouldnt get cold feet.

Later on, Christian's brothers mention that they had also noticed Karen being very overbearing and was complaining about not being able to be called Nan. She was also telling Liz that she couldnt play with Nora because she was 'chilling', at that point Nora was just laying on the floor by herself. I am not one for conflict so I do go quiet when this stuff happens and Christian doesnt like to get involved.

My mum says if it was up to her Karen wouldnt see my baby anymore, but I dont want to cause a rift in the family as I am not one for conflict.

She has a daughter with Christian's dad and is apparently a nursery worker. But when her daughter and Liz were together Karen kept taking Nora from Liz to give her to her own daughter

I honestly cant stand the woman, I only put up with her for Christian's sake. This woman is not blood related to anyone apart from the daughter she has with Christian's dad, which is why I dont see her as nan, plus ive only met her 3 times. She has two amazing Grandmother's, one grandfather and four great grandparents. Hurting Karen's feelings over this, one person, is alot better then upsetting both sides of the family to give her what she wants.
