I’m honestly really worried. I had no idea people advised against having two female dogs together. I’ve always had female dogs my whole life and never had any issues.
I have a 3-year-old (almost 4) Shih Tzu who weighs about 9 kg (20 lbs), and about a month and a half ago I brought home a 5-month-old Airedale Terrier puppy. After doing some research, I started reading that Airedales can become intolerant of dogs of the same sex as they mature, and now I’m scared that I made the wrong decision.
So far, they absolutely adore each other. They do everything together: play, run, go on walks, and even sleep together. They’re together pretty much all the time and have never shown any signs of serious conflict.
I’d really love to hear from people who own female Airedales, especially if you also have another female dog of a smaller breed. How has it gone for you as your Airedale matured?
For context: my Shih Tzu is spayed, and my veterinarian says my Airedale has an exceptionally balanced and stable temperament.

I have a 3-year-old Shih Tzu (almost 4) who has always been the queen of the house. Since my husband and I would like to have children in the near future, we decided to get another dog now so that by the time we start trying for a baby, the new dog would already be somewhat trained and settled.
That dog ended up being an Airedale Terrier! ❤️
Honestly, from day one my Airedale and my Shih Tzu (both females) absolutely adored each other. They play together all the time, sleep together, go on walks together, and we're basically together 24/7. So far, neither of them has shown any signs of aggression or conflict.
However, I'm starting to wonder if I made the right decision. My biggest concern is whether they might start fighting once the Airedale reaches adulthood. I've read that terriers can sometimes be challenging with other dogs, and there isn't nearly as much information available about Airedales as there is for other breeds.
Now that I'm thinking about getting pregnant in the future, I'm feeling a little nervous and would love to hear from people who have experience with adult female Airedales living with other female dogs.

Este es mi primer post así que por favor contéstenme jajaja miren, resulta que yo tengo una shihtzu de 3 años (casi 4 ya) que ha sido la reina de la casa y como pronto quiero tener hijos decidimos mi esposo y yo tener otro perro para que cuando busquemos al nene pues ya está un poco educado entonces ese perro fue un AIREDALE TERRIER. La verdad es que desde el minuto uno se amaron mis Airedale y mi shihtzu (ambas hembras) pero tengo miedo ahora de si mi decisión fue la correcta pues no sé si se vayan a pelear cuando la Airedale sea adulta, hasta ahora ninguna ha dado señales de pelearse. Juegan todo el rato, duermen juntas, paseando juntas, estamos 24/7 juntas. Y obviamente cuando me embarace ya me entró temor pues no hay mucha información de los Airedale. Les comparto fotitos. Pásenme tips por favoooor! Igual de cuando recomiendan esterilizar a la Airedale 🩷🫶🏻🌸
