I make more than my boyfriend and tonight he made it everyone's problem
I out-earn him by about 20k. Not a fortune, but enough that I cover most of the trips, concert tickets, the nicer dinners. He's known since we started dating. He's always said it doesn't bother him. I'm starting to think he's been lying to himself.
We were at his friend's apartment tonight. Maybe eight people there. Someone brought up a concert in July and asked if we were going. I said yeah, I already grabbed us tickets. His friend said nice, and my boyfriend laughs and goes "yeah she's the sugar mama, I'm just along for the ride."
People laughed. Tight laughs. The kind where everyone looks at their drinks.
Ten minutes later we're talking about a friend's wedding in Mexico and he goes "well, depends if she lets me come." Looks at me. Laughs alone this time.
Then at dinner, when I ordered an old fashioned: "ooh, big spender huh." The girl next to me literally did a small flinch. I didn't say anything in the room. Waited til we got in the uber (which yes, I paid for, lol) and told him I was going home alone. He called me dramatic. I said maybe. Got out at my place. Didn't invite him up.
He's been texting paragraphs. Two of his friends have also texted me, separately, saying he was being weird and they're sorry. So I know it wasn't just me.
I don't know if this is a breakup or a fight. I just know I didn't want to sleep next to him tonight.
