Full time permanent employee of the hospital that accepted a temporary full time contract in the same hospital. Was expecting a secondmont transition, but was asked to submit resignation letter from manager.

Hello,

I am a full time employee of a hospital for 15 years (non-unionized employee). Our department has been going downhill in regards to work culture over the last couple years since we had a new manager. Many people have left for less desirable jobs just to get out of the work environment. I applied for a 12 month temporary full time contract internally within the same hospital and was the successful candidate.

Across the hospital, the default policy is that when this occurs as a full time permanent employee, the transition is considered a secondment where I can return to my full time status following the end of the contract. I signed the offer, however my manager met with me a day after indicating that she will require a resignation letter from me. My new manager contacted me after and told me that they would have to revise my offer letter to say that I will be a temporary worker vs a full time employee on a secondment. Therefore I will be at risk of losing employment if I cannot secure another offer at the end of the 12 months.

I have yet to speak to HR, but will be this week. My current role is unique and I am currently the only one doing my specific job. There were others doing my job previously. One was laid off, one quit and another retired early. Just wondering if this is allowed and if there is any advice this community can help me with. I would like to proceed with this transition without having to resign and give up my full time status. Thanks in advance.
