The Charizard Card of Final Fantasy TCG

Been collecting a few cards throughout the years whenever packs were available at my LCS or at GameStop.

My favorite card of all time has to be the timeless Opus 1 Cloud 182L.

There’s just something about it that feels different from modern chase cards. The Yoshitaka Amano artwork, the original Opus 1 nostalgia, and the fact that it’s Cloud — arguably the face of Final Fantasy — makes it feel like the perfect centerpiece for FFTCG collectors.

What I’ve always respected about the card is that it became iconic naturally. No massive influencer hype cycle, no ultra-limited lottery gimmick — just years of collectors slowly realizing how important the card actually is to the history of the game.

To me, it’s basically the “Charizard” of FFTCG.

Not necessarily because it’s always the highest priced card, but because it represents the identity of the game itself. When people think of early FFTCG collecting, this is usually one of the first cards that comes to mind.

And honestly, I think a lot of people are going to look back and wish they picked one up earlier while the community is still relatively niche. Original flagship cards from long-running TCGs tend to age differently once newer collectors start entering the hobby years later.

Especially when:

- it’s from the very first set
- features the franchise’s most recognizable character
- has iconic Amano art
- and already has a reputation within the community

Even after all the newer full arts and premium rarities, I still keep coming back to Opus 1 Cloud. Some cards just feel permanent.

Curious what everyone else thinks the “must-own” card of FFTCG is.
