Third trimester dysautonomia
Hey y’all,
I’m currently 33 weeks and having some weird symptoms. I think they’re adrenaline dumps as I had those frequently in 2021 (granted I only realized those were adrenaline dumps in hindsight 4 years after)
It almost felt like I was going through transition that you experience when in labor. Shakes, flushing, dissociation, general unease, I was trying to eat my lunch and could not take many bites but I wasn’t particularly nauseous.
I’m not diagnosed with dysautonomia but am diagnosed with MCAS. Does this sound like a dysautonomia thing?
Can pregnancy cause someone to have dysautonomia which was otherwise “in remission”* before?
And what do I do to treat these episodes?
*”In remission” meaning I didn’t have super clear dysautonomia symptoms but I definitely was struggling with MCAS when I got pregnant which I know is connected to the autonomic system.
Other things I struggled with this pregnancy was dangerously low blood pressure starting in second trimester. I also had this in control before pregnancy but pregnancy seemed to lower my BP once blood volume demands increased. Electrolytes helped a lot with this.
Almost a year ago my allergist that diagnosed my MCAS asked me if I wanted a referral to a dysautonomia specialist. I said I was fine because I was mostly having MCAS reactions at the time… but this pregnancy has me wondering if I should. I felt like I didn’t fit enough criteria for a diagnosis at that time.
