Aloes for extreme summer heat

Hello All,

I’m very well versed in plants . After all, I did study plant biology but being that I grew up in south eastern United States and lived there my entire life. I only have experience in tropical and subtropical plants. Including some succulent and cacti plants. I recently moved to Palm Springs, CA. Where there is no humidity but extreme summer heat. With a high UV rays. However, winters are lovely with highs being in mid 70s and 80s and never freezing. After being here for now 2 years I’ve struggled with plants. I realized that everything that I could grow in a tropical climate I can’t grow here. Even full sun topics crisp up here. I’ve noticed that the landscape here revolves around the same plants over and over mostly being cacti and forms of agave’s, which seem to do fine however, I have noticed that the aloe vera grows very well here and it also grew very well and southeast United States year-round in my previous location however it does respond different here back in the east I can leave it out year-round and it would always be green and here in Palm Springs, California it turns to stress and turn into a nice blush pink color in the summer months and turn more into a regular green color in the winter. That being said, I’m trying to get into growing different aloes and was wondering if anybody knew of some good aloe species that can handle the heat here in Palm Springs, California. I am a collector by heart and collected many plants back in southeast United States and I’m trying to get more into collecting here, but my knowledge is not that extensive of succulent and cacti plants. I have spent lots of money trying varieties that end up just melting or burning in the summer heat. I have tried aloe blue elf, and the good old standard aloe vera that I brought from Florida so far I have noticed that those two aloes tend to do very well here and don’t burn. I also have an 2 foot tall aloe pearsonii that I brought with me and does wonderful here in full desert heat sun. Does anyone have any experience with other aloes that can handle fun sun? Or half day sun? My half sun spot is sunny from 1:30 pm to about 7pm . I’m open to any suggestions and recommendations!

Thanks!
